The 3000-2 I am restoring has the main tuner dial cord separated from the slider.The slider just has a white post sticking out near the string.Is there a part missing here?or was the string just glued to the post?.

If you look at the part closely, you will probably be able to see that there were originally three plastic prongs (posts) and the two outer ones have broken off.  The cord goes through in an "over, under, over" arrangement, locking it firmly in position.  I have had some units with broken prongs and an epoxy glue has managed to keep them going for a long time now.

Yes, that's also how I like to do it and there's not a lot of tension needed so it will work fine.
If you are very eager to do it better, you can drill in tiny steel pins or fabricate a clamp.

Thanks for the help.A drop of epoxy should do the trick.

I have used hot glue for similar problems in other kit. It usually holds well enough and is much easier to remove than epoxy, if need be. I haven't seen the 3000-2 slider though, the prong might be too small for this.

Good idea,hot glue would be good so I could get the front panel off easier.
