I recently acquired a used Beosystem2 (MK4, type 9425).

Then I found a BeoVision 4-42 aluminium frame in nice condition.

So, now I want make that stuff work and buy an used Panasonic Panel.

So I saw a TY-WK42PR1 panel. Will it work with the Beosystem2 ?

Or should I better look for another panel?

You have to search for a commercial panel from panasonic.

These panels have the RS232 socket for data between the panel and the system.

You need this for several functions, like switching on/off, brilliance, contrast etc.

With the older panels D5,6,7,and D8 is it possible to tweak the software in the panel so that the panel is recognized by the system.

Otherwise only switching on/off will only work.

I just got the panel, it's a Panasonic TH-42PW6 commercial panel and was fairly cheap.

it came with a separate tuner unit, but I don't want to use that thing.

I connected everything to the Beosystem 2 (IR-Eye, DVD player, Sat. receiver and the speakers) and connected the panel with a RS232 cable to the Beosystem.

Now the problem is, nothing happens if I want to switch on the system.

So what's the tweak you mentioned?

edit: I took the RGB cable from my PC and installed it. Now it works perfectly!!

Do you have the original remote from the PW6?

Does your contrast and brilliance (in the original pana menu) respond to light changes on the ir-eye?

I assume that you have the mk3 version.

If it doesn't, then you have to download the 42PW6 servicemanual to tweak some settings in the panel itself.

Yes, I have the original remote. But I did not try the picture thing (need my RGB cable for the computer, haha)

The other thing is the frame. I took off the frame from a BV4-42 dummy model. According to the BV service manual the frame is attached by lots of screws. I don't want to disassemble the whole Plasma, so thought I use double sided tape to install it. But should I take off at least the front plastic trim with the Panasonic Logo or should I leave it in place and stick the BV frame on it?

As far as I know the panasonic frame is normally used.

On the left side there are also buttons to control the panel manually. So I would for the second option, just stick the frame on the panel.

Leave some space between the frame and the panel where the ir-eye from the panel is located.

Then it is still possible to use the original remote.
