    BV5 : still a good choice?

I have the opportunity to get a perfect BV5 (nonHD) with a motorized stand for the half of the price of a BV10 (with stand too).
Do you think it is still a judicious choice nowadays at the era of the all HD? Hmm
Thank you in advance for your opinions, advices and experiences!

BeoVision 5's are now brilliant value for money, so if your budget is best suited - go for it !!

Most TV is still in SD anyway - so i wouldn't worry too much, you're not missing a great deal. Plus, a good quality source on a BV5 is pretty much the same quality as a lot of the budget HD TV's anyway.

Personally, i love Plasma - and i love the BeoVision 5.  It's done almost all of its depreciating too, so you won't take a big hit when you sell it.

    Only my own thoughts!

The Bv5 for a non Hd set gives one of the best Non Hd pics I have seen! So if your not too fussed about a Bv 7-40 HD set, then go for the Bv 5.

I sure that some of the Bv5's can have an HD 720p Kit Fitted. So you can connect By DVI. worth a check maybe!

Thank you, Lee for your fast answer!

The distance for watching TV will be approx 3.5 meters, so, will SD or HD make a big difference?
Is the BV5 a very reliable TV or is it prone to some particular faults?

Yes Bv7Mk3 a HD kit exists but I think to know that it is very expensive and I don't know if it would fit in this BV5 (2004/12 model).

But it is a good idea for a possible evolution

    Re: BV5 : still a good choice?

    Hi Marc,

    I agree with Lee,
I am a happy owner of both BV5 and BV10.
BV5 has been my dreamtelly since I first saw it, and it is absolutely unique in design and WOW feeling. Picture quality is fantastic if you have a good signal from the STB or DVD.

But if your going into the HD-world, I must say I am blown away by the picture quality of the BV10. I have a Avant 32 RF as well, and I think the BV10 is the new Avant, in terms of picture quality. As said here before, the sound is not as rich as Avant.

But looking at the SD sources of BV10 is absolutely fantastic and even improved with HD sources.

My BV5 is one from 2002 and has only scart sockets.
I switched from BV5 to BV10 on the wall and it became very neat and nice. The BV5 is a bit "bigger"

But I was very pleased with my BV5 in my living room as videomaster,

and each time I pass my BV5 I often stop and say,

Damm you look good ...... Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile   (so I will keep it)

The Beovision 5 is the most reliable TV i have ever sold.  I've never had one back with a fault - ever.

I'd be lying if i said you wouldn't notice a difference between HD and non-HD on a B&O TV, but from 3.5m with a good quality source i'd say you'd be delighted with a BV5.  Apart from an RF Avant i've not seen an SD TV that comes close..

    Very lucky man, Hebo!
I saw the BV10 yesterday for the first time and I can say it is really a stunning TV with a high precision picture but I agree with you the style of the BV5 is absolutely unique.

The BV5 is a dream for any B&O lover ! Embarrassed

    It's so stunning !

I fell in love with the TV in 2002.

But now that i've seen the BV10 and its amazing shape, i find the BV5 "massive".

    Strange ?

My beloved thinks just like you Steph, as far as the BV5 has a black alu frame and a black loudspeakers cover! But all in black, this is in that finish I love it more!

Is it true that plasma TV must be always shipped in vertical position and that B&O uses shocks gauges on BVs plasma packagings?

    Re: BV5 : still a good choice?

    Go for it!

I was a bit worried summer 2009 when I got a second hand BV5, that by paying about 4000e for it I was doing something crazy! I could have gotten 2 or 3 full HD Sonys or Samsungs for the same price, or a BV8!

So needless to say I absolutely love the set! Was thinking about getting the BV10 a few months ago, but decided against it, as Peter said, most sources are SD, and I don't care too much about the picture quality. Using DVD's the picture quality is as good as anything I've seen. The sound is awesome! It's so nice to look at when it's off too! Laughing

Oh, and there's a saying a plasma should be shipped vertically, mine came strapped to a Europallet. (Sweden to Finland)

    Re: BV5 : still a good choice?

This was my thoughts, Bayerische: how crazy should I be to spend 2 or 3 times the price of a Samsung, LG, .... HD TV and in 50" size! But when you see a BV5 for real, its unique design, its well contrasted picture with a good DVB-T or a good DVD, you cannot not to fall in love with it! Smile
