    Beomaster 6000 distortion.

After a year or two of neglecting my 'vintage' B&O equipment (because it's been working!) I decided to have a look at some of my spare equipment. My Beomaster 6000 (the sloping-front model) has the expected problems with the motor-driven volume control (I will get round to re-threading the display when I can find my third hand...) but the biggest concern is serious distortion on the left channel. I am tempted to blame output transisters or capacitors in the output stages, but would welcome any advice on where to start from others who have encountered similar problems.

    Re: Beomaster 6000 distortion.

There's always the possibility of a main volume pot contact issue, mine suffered from that. I also had another strange "distortion" problem but it was a bad speaker connector! You never can tell!

    Re: Beomaster 6000 distortion.

Thanks. The fault doesn't change sides when I swap the 'speakers & appears on both sets of outputs. The volume control is a little scratchy in places, but there are many 'sweet spots'; while the distortion is always on the left & is present at all volumes that I have tried. I had hoped for an easy answer... but having checked the easy things I expect to have to do some disassembly. Any advice gratefully received!

These units are well known for capacitor problems, and member Martin Olsen (Dillen) has capacitor kits if you're good with a soldering iron. Send him a PM.

    Re: Beomaster 6000 distortion.

Well, as always - capacitors first.
You really cannot judge anything with the old capacitors still in there.
    A kit exists for this.
Then the idle current and DC offset trimmers, they are very often found bad. Not just misadjusted but actually defective.
