    Beolab 5000 Amp Wanted

Ok - so I'm looking for a good Beomaster 5000 and/or Beolab 5000 FM tuner/amp combo as the final pieces in my collection. Not bothered if units are non-working as I can arrange for this to be remedied. Have given up trying to find these on eBay now as they either seem to go for peanuts in auctions I miss, or fortunes in auctions I end up watching!

    Hi John

This one looks to be in fairly good nick and he'll accept an offer of £90 I would guess.

PS - I was at Old Trafford when your boys did the deed!

I keep telling my girlfriend that enough is enough, but to be honest just looking at pictures of Richard's 900 RG Compact has made me realise that I'll probably never have my fill of B&O. Oh well!

I had a punt at a 'Best Offer' on the BM5000 Nigel, but not heard back yet. Will keep you posted though...

Ps - what were you doing at Old Trafford? I would have thought you'd have your pick of teams to support at the end of your road! :)

Right - thanks to Nigel's eBay prowess I now have a Beomaster 5000!!!

All I need now is a Beolab 5000 amp. Preferably working, but not essential. Am in UK :)

    Re: Beomaster 5000 & Beolab 5000 Wanted

Do bear in mind that most need servicing. I have had a few of these and until I had mine restored by Frede, never really understood what they were capable of. I cannot give you before and after figures for my Beolab as it was not fully working when sent as it had been kept in damp conditions by a friend, but my Beomaster 4401 went from have a damping factor of about 4 to about 62. Also remember that these systems work best with the speakers designed for the system.

These are however wonderful systems - did you see the article in Hi-Fi News?

    Congrats j0hn!

One of the greatest B&o quests is accomplished! Yes - thumbs up

As Peter mentioned, the matching speakers would be a nice complementary find! The second greatest quest? Still have had no luck "over here"!

    Re: Beomaster 5000 & Beolab 5000 Wanted

you're welcome, john... you'll enjoy the incredible sound of this amp. a must-have in every b&o collection... ;-) the recommended speakers are some beovox 5000/2500 cubes or a beovox 3000/2500 cube combo. my beolab 5000 works pretty well with some restored beovox 2400/2500 cubes, thanks to dillen and frede for the professional support.

peter, it's possible to send a link of this article from hi-fi news?

    thanks a lot.

    Re: Beomaster 5000 & Beolab 5000 Wanted

    Thanks guys

I'm hoping I can get away with sevicing for the time being, simply because I wasn't really planning on buying this in the first place and it has stretched my finances a bit (remember I am a poor old mature student). In time I'm sure I'll send it on to Tim, but this might have to wait until I move house and have the option of using it as a main room system. Here I have my Beolab 8000 system in the living space and my 6000 Quad in the bedroom, so this is going to have to slot into the office along with my Beomaster 2000 and 2400. Initially I think I'm going to have to use some CX50s simply because I haven't got the space for anything bigger, but I might just hook it up to my BV Pentas to have a listen before it takes residence in the office.

Quite a quest over - hope you find a nice one Jeff. It took me nearly two years of lusting after a Beomaster 8000 to get my hands on mine, then nearly four years of wanting a Beomaster 6000 Quad before I finally got one and had it fixed up by Tim. The 5000 has been on my list for about five years now, and I'm feeling pretty please with myself tonight :)

With regard to your German/English translation on the other thread, Angela El Grottos does a fantastic job and opnly seems to slip up a little with grammar. She helps me with all the foriegn fora, and I trust her implicitly. She makes a mockery of Babelfish!

I thought I made up the word 'fora', but apparently it is an acceptable plural for 'forum'....        ...in Latin!
The word 'opnly' was caused by fat finger syndrome, ( Nico-pollexitis) and was left in the translation deliberately.
I was hoping that some non-Wedthredder© would ask why I called it Angela El Grottos.Sad

    OK, I will bite.

    Why

    Jandyt:
    Angela El Grottos
    ?

I must admit at first I thought she was a real person or virtual person website, but when I found the link led to Google then I thought (not checking and seeing that it was YOU posting) that that "angela" was Spanish for Anglais :-) and Grottos similarly was slang for Spanish :-(

So now I have bit, bite me back with why/what/who Big Smile

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*
