Beovision 8-40 & integrated DVB-HD tuner in UK

Will the integrated DVB-HD tuner in the Beovision 8-40 support HD broadcasts when they become available on Freeview?

Unfortunately not. The current module was designed for Europe. The UK has decided to adopt its own standard and will require a new module that hopefully B&O will deliver. Being one of their bigger markets, hopefully they will produce an upgrade. I believe the final standard is due in February.

Its the same situation with all the TV manufacturers.

Having raised my concern with B & O regarding the UK compatability of the HD tuner in my BV 8 40 this is a section of a very short reply from them on the 5th March 2010:

"We can inform you that it is correct that there are not a DVB-T2 module available yet and we cannot say when or if this will become available."

It's not entirely B & O's fault as the UK seems to be going it's own way, but you would have thought the company would do a bit of research.

I just bought a Samsung 55" C8000 with DVB-T2 tuner, 4 x hdmi 1.4 sockets and PVR recording facility via USB - do you think B&O have ever heard of those features lol.

DVB-T2 is an internationally agreed standard, its just that the UK are the first country to implement it. Some STB manufacturers such as Humax do support this standard with Freeview HD.

Thanks for that Keith.  My conspiracy theory mindset working overtime again!  I just assumed it was the UK going it's own way in order to create a more controllable market for retalers/manufacturers in this country.

The latest info from my dealer is that DVB T2 is now in production at B & O and will be available as a module in early 2011, although he wasn't sure wether or not the module will be given as a free upgrade to current BV8 owners or if we will have to pay for it.

In my view, it is very unlikely that B&O would offer this as a free upgrade to existing owners.
