3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

    Hello,

I have created XML files with Lintronic and they work fine.

But, how can I make use of the physical buttons?

My Beo5 is ONLY used for 3rd party devices and so far I can't use the physical buttons. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards, BeoMedia

As you made the XML file with the Lintronic software because of a current issue with the Beo5 Configuration Tool 3.23 you will not be able to assign any of the hard keys.

However, they can be pre-assigned within the XML file, then you can just drag-n-drop in the Configuration Tool without further modification.

If you upload your XML HERE I will convert it for you..

Re: 3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

    Hi Keith,

Thant would be great, thanks (I will send them to you later tonight).

PS: when you say drag and drop I am a little confused as it sounds like I will then be able to cherry pick which commands I would like to assing to the physical buttons, is this correct? Or, do you mean I will have to drag and drop the XML file you return to me into the Config application for it to place the XML files in the correct folder on my harddrive? Would it be difficult for me to 'repair' these xml files myself, is there a piece of sw I would need?

PPS: I understand you are THE specialist on this topic so I'll fire another question regarding Macro's. I understand the Beo5 is able to create macro's but so far I seem to only have the options to add further ir-commands within the same product. I.e. for my XML file covering my Panasonic plasma I can create a macro of when pressein the BBC1 icon it will send ir command 1-0-1 for channel 101. I would also like it to turn on the plasma, turn on the av-receiver, open the right aux etc. Is this not possible?

MANY thanks for your help on this!

Your will drag-n-drop the whole configuration in one action.

I will have pre-assigned the hard keys and digits (where applicable) and I will provide the file in a ZIP file which PROVIDED you extract the file to C:\ will automatically put the file in the correct directory on your hard drive.

Other than the B&O Configuration Tool, the Lintronic software and the Beoworld XML Generator there is no other software available to members. I do have my own Windows based programme which provides facilities and functions which the above tools do not.

With regards to your PPS, yes it is perfectly possible to do exactly what you wish to do..

Re: 3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

    Thanks Keith!

I can see in the B&O Configurator that when I have dragged a button to for instance the center of the Beo5 wheel, I can right click and see that the button/ir-command has been added, however it doesn't work anymore.

It is VERY kind of you to help hard code some of the physical keys for me but then I would probably have to make custom XML files for you first before I send to you. For instance, when I have pressed my button for Apple I would like the Apple remote to be on the physical keys, but I would also like to have a macro of power-off for my plasma & receiver on the stand by physical key (when in the Apple sub menu) & have the receiver volume up and down (still in the Apple sub menu).

As I see it I would need to create custom XML files for you but that will not allow me to have a macro on for instance the STANDBY physical key (with receiver OFF and plasma OFF) - or would it?

So sorry for going on too long here, I am just eager to get this working and happy to help you with anything if I can.

PS: The additional software you are talking about - would that allow me to assing several ir-codes/macro to the physical standby button?

PPS: Since I have not had the chance to use any of the physical buttons yet (have no B&O product other than speakers) am I correct in assuming the physical buttons can have different assigned ir-codes depending on which 'mode' the Beo5 is in, i.e. in DVD mode or TV mode?

    Kind regards, Chris

Re: 3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

Keith, I've uploaded the files now. Please note that one of the Panasonic Plasma XML files is from BeoWorld but I have uploaed it as doesn't allow me to assign to the physical keys (same goes for the file Apple TV).

The others I have created with LinTronic.

Finally - I have a Virgin Media set top box ("VIRGIN MEDIA VBOX SAMSUNG SMT-2110C")

which I cannot create xml codes for with my Lintronic (Michael Lindgaard has confirmed this). Do you have a different tool that might be able to help here?

The following is an example of raw format which I can't make to a working xml:

    F0038R00030099400791018850079100967017080186101709018610081600991007920096801708009680081601861008160099265000

    It is a philips RC5 kode ( I think).

Do you of someone who has xml for such a Samsung box?

    Kind regards, Chris

Re: 3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

    Hi

If it is RC5 the this is directly supported bye the Beo5.

Just use this as your ir code in your xml

    "RC5:GlobalManual=1#CODE=0#ADDRESS=0#Carrier=36#Pause1=89825#Pause2=89825#Comment=Philips RC5: 0"

then it is just a matter of finding the correct CODE and ADDRESS values.

ADDRESS can be a value of 0 to 32, and CODE can be a value of 0 to 64.

What i did with my old noname tv-set was making an xml with all the 32 ADDRESS values and a CODE value of 10 for them all. The i just tried all 32 buttons until the tv responded, and now i had found the DEVICE code of my tv, then i made an XML with all the 64 CODE's with the ADDRESS value found, and named them code1-code64, and tried them all out to se what function they activated on the tv :)

    Yes, offcourse :)

0-31 and 0-63, you made the same mistake id did, thinking of 64 when writing 0-63 :)

Thank you very much for your help! With address 12 I managed to find the power on/off ir code. However, you write address as both a number between 0-31 AND as a code in the format of $10-16

What is the difference of these please? Which should I use in the generic RC5 xml please?

And, my XML files do not allow me to assign to the hard / physical keys of the Beo5 - how can I repair these xml files please?

    Many thanks!

PS: When I am done I will upload my xml files to beoworld so other users can download and use these

Re: 3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

The values shown are in decimal 0-31 and also listed in hexadecimal which is 0 to 1F

Hexadecimal is binary to the power 16 and is denoted as 0 to 9 then A to F

    So, 31 in binary would be 0001 1111 where 0001 = 1 and 1111 = F

In the XML file the address and command are defined in decimal  ONLY so forget hexadecimal for RC5

I suggest you use the generic RC5 XML file and just edit the address and commands as you need them.

The assignment of the digits and hard keys needs to be done seperately within the XML file.

    Understood - thanks!
How do I repair the XML's so I can assign them to the hard coded keys please?

Is the process to assign to the hard coded keys within the XML, and then I will be able to drag & drop them (i.e. replace the e.g. volume up with something else once the XML has been repaired?).

Just trying to understand so I can start use my Beo5 which I am looking forward to - and so I can upload the finished product to beoworld.

    Thanks, BeoMedia

I suggest you upload your completed XML file you have produced and tested which works correctly using the screen commands HERE and I will assign the hard keys in the XML file and then you will be able to see what I have done.

I can confirm that I have the files, but you did not say how you wanted the hard keys assigned ?

i.e. what hard keys to what commands etc

Re: 3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

    Hi Keith,

Sorry - I was not aware how the hard keys are to be coded. Perhaps if you could help me code the Panasonic plasma TV file (using ALL the hard keys) with the most obvious on hard keys.

This will then allow me (I hope) to see what is needed to code the ir-commands and I can do it for the other xml files and maybe change a few things on the Panasonic Plasma xml file. But please use all the hard keys so I know how to make use of all of these on other xml files.

    Thanks! BeoMedia

    Hi Keith

Do you have a ready made Panasonic Plasma tv XML file, that can do more then just turn the tv on or off - hard keys as well ?

Re: 3rd party XML - can these make use of the physical buttons on the Beo5?

    Peter,

Yes, I am aware of this issue which is caused because when you switch a Panasonic TV ON it requires a long (about 2 seconds) press of the button even on the original remote. This is true for all modern Panasonic TV's

If there is a break in the Infra Red repeat ON signal to the TV it will NOT switch on. On the original remote, as long as you keep your finger on the Power button, it will continue to send the IR signal even if there had been a short break transmission caused by sunlight, movement of the remote etc. HOWEVER, as Panasonic uses a 48 bit protocol which is not supported by the Beo5/6 firmware, then RAW encoding is used which you cannot repeat by holding your finger on the button. In the file I provided I created the Power RAW encoded signal to send the command 8 times which means most of the time it would work, but as you found sometimes it would fail.

Clearly, this situation is unsatisfactory, so I have re-engineered the Power command to use the much more complex "Bitstream" encoding method which DOES allow a repeat if the button is held down (Pressed) on the Beo5/6.

You may test the new XML file by downloading it from HERE

Please provide feedback to this thread on how the updated file works. As before all Hardkeys and digit screen are pre-defined.

    Regards Keith....
