I am really struggling making up my mind whether to buy a B&O or Loewe tv. Overall I think that Loewe probably gives the best quality/value with more functions availavle. I have an Ergo Crt 28" Loewe at present and have been very pleased with it for many years. A digital module cannot be fitted I've been told and I would like to upgrade to a LCD tv with DAB-T. B&O tvs don't have PIP too whereas Loewe do.
In terms of design I still prefer B&O but Loewe is quite strong too.
Please let me know what are your thoughts with regard to this. I would really appreciate differ opinions
Many thanks

I hesitated between a Beovision 8 40 and a Loewe Individual 40 (or Connect 40), and after long studies, I opted for the BV8. Some arguments :
-The Loewe is more expensive (yes, really) -The in built HDR and sat tuners of the Loewe are quite risky here in France where all satellite encryption change regularly, and canalsat makes very difficult to use a non-canalsat decoder -The B&O sound is way better -The design of the connect is quite bad and looks and feels cheap. But that's a matter of taste. -The Loewe Connect multimedia player interface looks like a cheap interface from kikinoko, not a high priced brand. It is really shocking to get that same interface in the Reference TV, at 12000€... Look at a TviX 6500 or Apple TV (each one can be controlled via BV8 PUC) interface to see a modern interface. -Loewe is not reacting as quickly as other in order to implement new codecs in their multimedia player, so having it separate from a specialised brand and controlled via PUC is more futureproof...

Sorry m8, i do have a Beovision7 and it does have PIP
It's unavailable on the Beovision 8.

The B&O PIP is a pseudo one i.e., you need an external source e.g., an HD-recorder. The Loewe however has a double tuner and thus has real PIP.

I have a Loewe Individual Compose 46 and I am very satisfied with it. It's all aluminum and glass with a little plastic on the back. Anyway, looks and picture quality are a matter of personal taste.
My advice: stick to the facts like screen size and technical features. Also be aware that it will be almost impossible to integrate the TV with your B&O equipment. Go to a shop and have a demo of both TVs.

Hi all,
How can you say that Loewe Selection 40 is more expensive than a BV8-40 ?
Legal prices in France for a BV8-40 is 4.040€ (with Beo4, TNT-HD) when a Selection 40 cost 3.490€ (remote control ,TNT-HD, Cable-HD, antireflect glass and aluminium structure). Option are motorized floor stand, HD recorder, double or simple Sat module, a Network MediaPlayer).
Regarding the quality displayed when using MediaPlayer, the new version is now in HD with access to Youtube or Internet Radio. It has changed a few weeks ago.
The people who are using in France the satellite, as me for many month, have never faced any problems. And when CanalSat have changed is encryption, i only change or update my PCMCIA Card reader.
When you take about B&O reactivity, i think about all french people still waiting for their FreeBox STB/Puc... The universal remote control proposed by Loewe can be updated using a PC USB connection to control others brands.
For the Pip, it is true that Loewe, with their double tuners (TNT-HD, cable-HD or Sat-HD) gives possibility to have two pictures from the same source. I personally have two sat tuners (with a double exit "parabole") and can record one Sat channel and watching another Sat channel.
regards.

You will not be able to do BeoLink with the use of the MasterLink but it is totally possible to integrate your audio B&O equipment with a Loewe TV.
All B&O speakers with a Line Out can be directly linked to a Loewe TV with the AC3 module integrated.
For Example, the BeoSound 9000 "Numeric Out" is linked to the "Numeric In" of the Loewe TV and each speaker (2 or 4) is linked to the screen.

What do you mean with "Numeric Out"? My BS9000 has a "digital out" and an "auxiliary". The "digital out" only works for playing CDs according to the manual.
I have tried with the "auxiliary" already but the picture and sound were not in sync.

Thanks for all your comments! I've finally made up my mind and decided to go for a Loewe Art SL37" with DR+
It has all what I want like full PIP, full digital 1080, electronic curtains, amazing natural picture and good sound too.
I can't really afford to buy a BV7 and the Beovision 8 looks really cheap plus when I saw it at the store I was quite disappointed
I also decided to go for a Loewe as I got £500 money back to trade my Loewe Ergo 28" CRT. Great deal
Oh just a tiny note about the B&O store I visited in Edinburgh. I was a bit sorry to hear that people broke in and apart from stealing some equipment, they did some damage, including a BV8 26". In what world we live..

Hi Malock,
If I remember correctly, with a Selection 40 at 3490€, you only have a 50Hz screen, and no 5.1 module. I was looking for at least 100Hz and 5.1, so it was more expensive than BV8 40. What I say is that one has to know what he needs and what he doesn't, and for me Loewe was more expensive. If I wasn't on the market for a full TV + 5.1 sound system, and that stereo were enough, I would not have bought a B&O nor a Loewe but a Sony would have been enough (look at the NX800 : glass and aluminium...), connected to my B&O hifi it would have been perfect. (and note that I bought a BV8 in august, and if I remember correctly, prices were not exactly the same, and the selection had only 1 HDMI at this time...)
Concerning satellite issue, I have read in some Loewe forums that a lot of people have problems with TNTSat and Canalsat in France, so it doesn't seem very easy. You say that you just have to update your PCMCIA card reader : a)you are a Loewe dealer, so it's easier for you to do that than for a "standard customer" like me b)in case of PCMCIA reader change, it usually cost the same, or even more, than a dedicated "Canal Ready" box... I'm still saying that Loewe is more expensive here...
I agree with you that Loewe has some advantages over B&O (double tuner for instance), but it's a different offer, not a better one.

It has been a while since you have posted this question but I still wanted to post this in this forum having chosen a Loewe TV and successfully integrated it with the rest of my B&O set up.
Rather long, so attach a link rather than the text itself. Hope you may find it useful.

Hi, I have had no more BeoVision for more than a year now, I replaced my BV7_32 by a Loewe Individual 52 for several reasons:
- having no more B&O dealer around, it became risky to purchase a BeoVision & have no one around for maintenance or upgrades when needed
- the Loewe 52 inch version cost me the same price as my 32 inch BeoVision!
- it has features that B&O still struggles to offer, such as built-in DVB T HD, a hard drive, USB inputs for photo/video/music playback, an Ethernet socket for DLNA integration, and easy updates via Ethernet or USB.
- what it doesn't have: a built-in loudspeaker that matches BeoLab 7, the build quality that only B&O can offer (the alu floor stand was scratched after 1 day! There are apparent screws at the back), the GUI is not as logical (sound settings is not found in "sound", but in "connections").
- integration with the rest of my B&O setup was so easy : I kept all my 5.1 speakers & used either phono to Powerlink adaptors, or cables from SoundsHeavenly; remote control goes via a Lintronic converter that I already had; and A/V integration in my case has always been pointless (who listens to a video source in an audio room? I only play audio sources throughout the house, so audio devices are all I need (BeoLab 2000/3500/BeoLink Active).
- for the price, I'd say it is unbeatable, the major downside for me being the build quality (the motor stand has a 2° bias, and from time to time you realise the TV is not really facing you, the back of the TV is far from looking like the back of a BV7)
- if I were to go back to a B&O TV today, it would probably be a BV10-46 or a second-hand BV4-50 (anything less than 50 inch is now really too small for me)but none of them has the connectivity & upgradeability that Loewe TVs have (the BV10 is getting close, but still has no DLNA).
Reunion Island is greeting you!

Do the Loewe tvs have built in surround decoder/amp?
I did also look at the Loewe tv before I made up my mind in getting a Beo 10. One thing that I like is that you can have one set of dvd/bluray player and link the picture to another room. Yes I know that it is a more expensive solution than getting a ceaper tv and a bluray. But I love the idea of not having alot of boxes - that one of the first things that made me look at Beo.
If you use the Beosystem you get the integrated system - surround and you can use what ever screen. Or is my imagination spinning?
Interresting with different ideas and thaughts :)

Yes, indeed the Loewe Individiual TV has a built in 5.1 decoder.
There is no amp on the TV but the Loewe subwoofer I also bought have 5x75W for surround + 150 W for the sub. I kept the b&o speakers for front and left but did make use of this amplifier for the centre (Loewe) speaker.
Loewe seem to have similar systems, including a 3D Bluray player, ot sure whether you could link that to another room but that is something I would not be interested anyhow.
Chrisreunion, who also had a reply, has a good summary of what Loewe offers more, but also where it lacks.
Agree dfferent ideas and thoughts and nice that we do share them. Thanks for doing so :)

I would also knowing what I do now have gone the Loewe way.
Bought a BV10 about 1,5 years ago, it's OK, but not much more. Not worth the price.
I won't be changing TV for many years though.

I'm really sorry for hijacking this thread for a moment. In the second line of this post there is the mention of "Legal prices". I have never seen this phrase before and I have no idea what it means or how its application. Any explanation from these forums would be great.

I suspect it has something to do with the fact that TS originates from France. English is not his mothertongue. Legal prices translates as regular prices (prices do no differ a lot her in the EU), or prices for a non stolen TV.
Furtermore I cannot understand that Bayrische is unhappy with his BV10. I have one and I love it. The looks are amazing compared to any non-B&O tv and the picture quality is great with an HD-source like my Humax 5200c or even an Apple TV (at 720p).

I wouldn't even put loewe in the same league as B&O.
I had one , it was utter rubbish.

Agreed -
Neither a Samsung or a B&O - with average ( at best) sound and no real "identity" of its own...... when the best thing people say about your brand is "its not as good as XXXX, but it is cheaper.... then you are doing something wrong.
silk purse/cows ear etc etc.

Hardly a fair,or objective,description of Loewe's current product range.
For example, electrostatic speakers have much to recommend them.
