BV10-40, some pictures and thoughts after 2,5 weeks with it.

I got a bit inspired after seeing many nice pictures of your B&O stuff, so this afternoon I took a few photos from my livingroom.

Here are some. First the BV10 on the wall with the BL5 as front speakers.

The BV10 comes, as you know without a built in BD Player. Therefore I have bought a Pioneer LX52 BD player. It is very ugly, but it produces nice pictures. However, You must live with the Pioneer badge all over the screen quite often.

I have all CDs, DVDs and Bluray discs on the opposite wall from the bv10. You can see a BL4000 on the wall over my CD player. The Pioneer Bluray player I keep hidden inside the "bench" which hide a long radiator.

The BD player is well hidden. I have also chosen a "display mute" function on the player so it isn't very visible...

Wonderful TV. It goes well with the picture frames in your room too!

how are you finding the picture quality on this tv so far.

Re: BV10-40, some pictures and thoughts after 2,5 weeks with it.

After 2,5 weeks with the new BV10 I am very satisfied with it. It looks good, it sounds good and the picture is excellent! I have the extra contrast screen. I thought that when not having the opportunity to change the stand with the remote, it would be nice to limit the reflexes as much as possible. I am not sure if it really does, but I think it adds a bit of depth and makes black even "blacker"..

I have many SD channels, and I am extremely surprised with the picture quality on these channels. They look really good. The HD channels is little bit better, but it is hard to see the difference! When watching BDs, there is a major improvement over both SD broadcasts, ordinary DVDs and HD broadcasts. Really stunning. BTW, the Pioneer does a relly good job upscaling ordinary DVDs, so they look really good too.

The sound I was very worried about after reading Peters first impressions on the new BV10. The BV10 replaced an Avant DVD in my livingroom, and I must admit it lacks some bass compared to the Avant. But I never listen to the Speaker 1 option, and the BV10 Speaker reproduces voices as good as the Avant did. When listening to a BD or a DVD you use the surround option, and then the voices are almost all throgh the center channel, and music and effects through the front and rear speakers. The sound coming from the BV10 is very good.

Things I miss from the Avant...

    • The Avant remembered where we were in a DVD if we by some reason had to turn the system off. The Pioneer does not.
    • The BV10 doesn't have a visible clock. I got used to (and fond of) the clock in the Avant display.
    • A built in DVD player made everything very easy. Now with the Pioneer BD player I have a link issue. I can't see the DVD/BD from my bedroom/kitchen unless I make an "initial setup" in the Pioneer player, where I choose the analog phono connection instead of the HDMI. I have a "Riks-TV" box (digital TV tuner), and that box have no problem distributing digital to the BV10, and analog to the link rooms.
    • Not having to look at the "pioneer" logo

The Avant is now in the basement, working as a "stand alone" TV, and would I even consider changing back? No.

The conclusion is that I think the new BV10 is very, very nice. My brother has the BV7-40 mkIV, and the picture from the BV10 is at least as good as the latest BV7.

I think the new BV10-40 is worth the money. Its beauty is more than skin deep.

thank you thavn for replying i have wanted to get the low down on how people find the bv10 at home and i was very interested in your views one question how does the bv10 handle films with cgi effects especially with the 200hz do you think it  gives films that artificial look or does it look natural to you? not a biggie to me as i like the smooth motion effect.

Elegant setup! The thin frames of the paintings match completely with the frame of the tv.

This shows how versaile the design of BV 10 is. The tv can be placed on an empty wall or combine it with artworks. Or put it on the floor where tvs used to be.

I would like it more, if 2 pictures where away from that wall. The wall is too busy for me. Too many eye catchers. Where should I look?

Well. To be honest it looks perfect. The question is whether perfect is natural? I had the same experience when watching movies on my Avant for the first time in 2002. It almost looked too perfect, because you could easily think that they were inside a studio with cameras all around them. But to answer your question, the TV handles cgi effects really well. It looks sharp even when there is very much motion in the picture.

Watching a fotball (soccer) game is also very nice indeed. A long way from those early LCDs where the ball almost disappeared sometimes.

    Hello DoubleU

Thank you for your honest opinion. I always prefer that.

I can see your point. But we are not happy with having too much focus on a TV in a living room, so the point was to make a sort of "collague" of paintings, where the BV10 just blend in. We´re quite happy with the way it turned out. The two paintings to the left of the BV10 is from the same artist, and the small one to the right is from another well known norwegian artist.

I think TV´s in general can be very dominating in a livingroom, and I´m very pleased with the BV10. I think it is less dominating than the BV Avant DVD 28" that used to stand there. Being a 40" TV compared to a 28", that is impressive. I´ll see if I can find some pictures of my livingroom with the Avant, so you can compare for yourself.

Here are some more pics from my living room with the Avant. I prefer the BV10 on the wall to the Avant that had to stand quite a bit from the wall. These old pictures are not taken in the christmas time, so it looks more tidy. This is how it usually looks.

Some more pics from my living room. You can see the other BL4000 mounted on the wall left rear. The rear speakers are not placed perfect from a listening piont of view, but it works. And it looks good, to my eyes at least.

I'm not very happy with all these boxes you need to have connected to your TV, so I tend to hide them away. The Avant had everything built in, except a satellite tuner, which you can see well hidden behind the wood in this picture. When changing to the BV10 I had to have a separate Bluray player, and I could not hide it at the same spot. The Bluray player you have to physically touch when changing discs, so I hid it inside the long bench as shown in another picture.

Thank you! I'm norweigian, and live in the south east of Norway. How could you tell (apart from obvious spelling or grammatical errors..)?

Like most norwegians we love the UK btw!

Great pictures, thanks. Agree somewhat about the pictures on the wall, but as with everything, it's personal taste. Overall, everything looks great.

About the fire, what heat does it provide to the rooms? Does it give out any direct heat? If so, to where? The living areas seem far from it!

    Hi there

It was nothing to do with spelling or grammer it was your lovely house that gave it away.

Most "normal" houses in the UK are not that nice and are small little overpriced boxes but thats another story.

Do  you have any other link rooms?

    Thanks!

We use the Rais stove for heating. Not the open fireplace. That hardly provides any heat at all.

We have an air handling unit which privides fresh and clean indoor air. It has a rotary heat exchanger which uses the warm air from the livingroom to warm up fresh air from outside, and distribute warm, clean air to other parts of the house. This actually works very well. The sollution is from Enervent, I believe a Finnish company. In one of the pictures (where you can see the left rear BL4000) there is a small spot underneath the roof, where the system takes out the heated air from the livingroom.

Ah Norway, most beautiful country I ever visited. Went there a few times for work in Stavanger, and spended a holiday there. Went there in June, couple of years ago for camping and travelled above the polar circle. Great experience, but most of all weird to see sunlight 24/7. Cool
