Yes, it is possible to reduce the heat.
1.) All capacitors with a defect need more and more power... so more or less all of them need replacement after 15-20 years.
2.) B&O used the big standard capacitors. There is a fan inside, pulling air through the boards. This is pretty difficult, there are so many wires and boards inside, there is not enough spce inside the VX series.
I use the very small micro miniatur capacitors on the two mainbords an on the capstan motor. especially the SMD capacitors become very hot because the steel plate below the board is used as a heat sink... after playing 2-3 hours the motor is around 60-70 degrees hot. Using miniature capacitors with standard wires will keep them cooler.
Especially if you replace all standard capacitors on the upper mainboard by micro miniatur capacitors will keep the VX much cooler, around 5-10 degrees less. After playing several hours the top cover becomes only warm, not hot any more. So replace every 1 - 47uf capacitor by an 105 degree micro type. They also last longer ;)
