You mean the high voltage cable that goes from the flyback transformer into a rubber hat attached to the side of the tube?

The answer is very carefully - but you probably know that already if you've got that far...

Feel the hat from its sides - you should be able to squeeze it a bit and feel how the two metal spring hooks inside it move. Squeeze it, pressing slightly down and slide it to one side, then one of the hooks should come loose from the hole in the glass, and you can get the hat off.

Do not go prying under the rubber with any kind of tool or your fingers! Once the hat is off, touch the metal spring to the metal grounding strap that goes around the back of the tube. This should discharge any possible remaining voltage and the flyback will be safe to handle.

If you're referring to the black cable with the yellow painted 'ring' this is the focus cable and is fixed to the focus control but you detach it on the other end: at the EHT transformer, by lifting out the little plactic ring on top of 1 of the 2 'chimneys' sticking out of the transforner.

With 2 small screwdrivers it's possible to fiddle it out...

    PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Lightning Sad

I was repairing CRT's in my car once... so much smaller, but as careful as I was about discharging... I did get "lit up" once -and only once!

That little tube blew a nice pencil sized HOLE in my left ring finger!

A bigger tube will KILL you... w/o regard!
