    Beogram 4002 issues

I recently inherited a Beogram 4002 and am incredibly excited about rebuilding my LP collection, but I have run into a few issues. If you're willing to, and think you could help, please bear with me because I have very little experience with turntables and know very little beyond the basics, but am very interested in learning. I know for a fact that this turntable was in working condition 5 years ago, and since then has done little more than sit in our (dry, warm) basement collecting dust. I've replaced the cartridge and bought new bands only to discover an issue with the turntable.  What I've discovered is that the platter isn't turning cleanly, and isn't level. When I push play, the platter will barely do a quarter turn before stopping, and the arm tracks back. Is there any simple, common, explanation/fix for this, or does it seem like something that I'm going to have to find a professional to help with?  Thanks, in advance!

    Hi CDer

Check this post, and keep it for reference - if you need to troubleshoot anymore issues.

In your particular case, I would do 2 things to start:

    1. Replace the belt - contact user Dillen for spare belts.

    2. Remove the platter, and the axle which fits into the vertical socket on the chassis. Wipe off all the old oil on the axle, and in the vertical socket. Squirt a few drops of sewing-machine oil on the axle, and in the socket. Replace the platter, pushing firmly down at the circumference - it should level, and enjoy.

If there are any more issues, post a question in the BeoGram forum on this website.

    Re: Beogram 4002 issues

    Welcome to Beoworld !

Will the platter rotate easily by hand ?
With - and without the belt mounted ?
Is it wobbly or does it move up and down when rotating ?
Did you check the three transport safety screws. (Access from underneath with one Beogram
corner at a time out over the edge of a table.)
Does the subchassis spring support work freely ?

The backtracking sounds like an electronic fault to the H-bridge but there could
    be other reasons.

The speed problem could be the speed changing relay, the basic speed setting trimmers, the fingerwheel
    trimmers or the motor itself.
