I know there are a couple of extensive posts on comparing Soundsmith cartridges with Axel's retipped ones, but my issue is slightly different.
I have a Beogram 4004 with an MMC 20EN that is starting to wear. The turntable feeds a Beomaster 4400 and at the moment I'm using S45.2s. Having been very impressed with a retipped MMC20S to 20E spec he did for me, I am tempted to get Axel to retip it to MMC20CL spec with a contact line stylus. However, I know that 20CLs are very temperature sensitive. Also, Axel's retipping uses an alluminium cantilever but the original 20CL had a saphire cantilever.
Has anyone noticed if Axel's retipped 20CLs are less temperature sensitive than the original or if there is any noticeable difference using an alluminium cantilever from the original saphire? Am I better getting it retipped as an EN to retain its original status? The cost differential is minimal, so that isn't an issue.
