    HDMI splitter for BV8

    Hello everybody,

I will sooner or later add a 4x2 HDMI splitter to my BV8 40 setup, in order to get 5.1 sound with movies on my videoprojector (BV8 in P.mute, videoprojector for the image).
I thought of buying a cheap 4x2 matrix like that http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4x2-SWITCH-SPLITTER-v1-3b-1080p-HD-HDMI-TRUE-MATRIX_W0QQitemZ110447121717QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ConsumerElectronics_VideoSwitches_SM?hash=item19b7295535

(As long as I switch on only one source at a time, I shouldn't need to remote control the switch and the picture of the powered source will automatically be sent on the two devices)

But I've learned that the new BV8 software allows to control a HDMI switch : as I understand it, that would allow a little bit more flexibility like quick source change, so it would be like the BV8 has 5 HDMI inputs (and one output for the projector)

So here is my question : which HDMI switches can be controlled by the (updated) BV8 PUC? And is there any 4x2 matrix switch among them??

I think it's only a Gefen one, and it costs about £400.

    http://www.futureshop.co.uk/gefen-4x1-hdmi-13-switcher-p-582.html?osCsid=333014eb0c106a33a246ee9833f7567b

There is a 4x2 one - at around £500.  If it uses the same codes, it may work.  But I have no real idea how it's controlled.

The BV7 (and I assume BV8 also) only supports 1 Geffen model which I don't personally recommend. It is outdated, expensive and less capable than newer splitters. Most other splitters auto switch and many come with remotes. My recommendation is Atlona. I use their 2 way splitter to switch between my Apple TV and PS3. Not in any PUC lists but still does the same as the Geffen as both my Apple TV and PS3 share V.AUX2 on the Beo 4/5 remotes so when I select one, the other switches off automatically and vice versa. Thus achieving full B&O remote control providing you have got your IR cables attached for further B&O remote use as with the Apple TV and PS3 in this example.

See http://www.futureshop.co.uk/atlona-technologies-c-306.html and call them for the best advice on all manufacturers, models and options available to you. They have considerable expertise and I highly recommend them.

    All the best,
    Simon.

Thanks, I also thought that the Gefen was just an overpriced crap... I will take a look at Atlona, I didn't knew this brand.

Can you confirm that you never miss a remote? Or do you control the splitter with your Beo5? (What remote system do you use for teh PS3? I have a Nyko blu wave)

I can use both the Beo 4 and the Beo 5 remotes with the Atlona splitter. Everything works fine. My Beo 5 has been programmed for the PS3.

    Re: HDMI splitter for BV8

I just added the Gefen 1x4 splitter to my BS3 and it works perfectly. The BS3 sends the codes to the Gefen splitter to change to the appropriate HDMI input for C1, C2, C3, or C4.

As the Gefen splitter is HDMI 1.3, I don't see how it is outdated in any way. Regardless, the BS3 is not even HDMI 1.3.

    Re: HDMI splitter for BV8

BeoJeff... its not outdated as such, just overpriced and not as future proof as other models available. Compare the specs below for example:

    Gefen 1:4 HDMI Splitter
    http://www.futureshop.co.uk/gefen-14-hdmi-splitter-p-557.html

    Atlona 1:4 HDMI Splitter
    http://www.futureshop.co.uk/gefen-14-hdmi-splitter-p-557.html

godotz... see this link to find the product you require: http://www.futureshop.co.uk/atlona-technologies-c-306.html

Bv7Mk3... £201.84. Half the cost of the gefen equivalent and with a higher spec.

    Cheers,
    Simon.

    Re: HDMI splitter for BV8

I too have a BV7 with DVI and coaxial audio.  Futureshop are still looking into it.

I have been recently told that some devices only carry stereo sound through HDMI. Foxtel IQ2 - SKYHD and Apple TV were mentioned... please tell me this is incorrect?...  Otherwise it would mean a rather complex HDMI and coaxial audio matrix of switches...would it not?

    beoaus.
