Wondering if one should stay with the BV7-40", mark III as I have today with the BeoLab 7-4.

Or should I trade it in and go for the BV10-40".
+ better picture, LED

- no DVD
- no possiblity to add projector
- no as good speaker
- only 5.1 instead of 7.1 possibility

What would you BeoWorld fellas out there land in this question?

Stay with BV7-40 mk.III

The BV10-40 has not the BS3 as the BV7-40.

How much do you use the projector and 7.1 facility? Do you need the multiple connection possibilities of the BV7-40?

Personally I would keep what you have and wait for the upgraded 7-40 and then decide. The BV10 is aimed at a slightly different market I believe. Less videophile (is that a new word?!!) and more aimed at a less dominating set which will have good picture and sound quality and fit witth a B&O audio system without necessarily being the centre. The 7-40/7-55 and BV9 are ultimate sets with corresponding prices.

I can also see the BV10 becoming an accomplished bedroom set - takes up little room except when pulled away from the wall to the viewing angle.

Hi, I can give the view (or at least one view) as a non "videophile" and non-hardcore B&O fan. I currently own the Beocom 4 (since 4 years, was my first B&O purchase), the Beosound 3 (since 2.5 years) and the Beotime (since 1 day!).

We moved in our new house in may and therefore have ML wiring throughout the house. Though we're still watching TV on an old CRT from Sony, I couldn't decide myself to buy a B&O TV. Main TV is in the living room. We mostly watch "standard television", family films with children or my wife watches her kind of stuff and films. Set will be a 3 speaker (TV + Beolab 8000 to listen to relax music at a normal sound level).

Here are the pre-requisites of the TV:

* Must be fixed on a wall

* We like design, so this excludes most regular TV sets

* A decent sound excludes all regular sets but Loewe; 

* My wife doesn't like the BV8 design

* BV7: we both like it but we won't use projector capability nor 7.1 surround, we do not need tens of connections (1 blu ray and HDR2 will be connected), we're both "non-videophiles" so we do not need most of BS3 features; hence the price of the 40 wasn't justifiable

* so there was no B&O TV in the program right now but I really want a B&O cause I started to like the brand (maybe I'm turning to be  a fan?) and the link capability; Loewe is bringing out new stuff though far away from B&O level. And new sets from Loewe aren't priced that far away from B&O 

* I had convinced my wife to go for the BV8 as I was really looking forward to a new TV, but then read news on Beoworld about BV10. Once I saw the pictures and specificities I was convinced it was the right set for us. My wife likes the design as well, so I straight pre-ordered it. Should be delivered around 23d November. We're counting the days!!!!

Sorry if the story is a bit long, but I think it explains quite well our point of view and why we're preferring the BV10 vs BV7. This will leave me money for the BS5 maybe. I'm looking at it. And the Beocom 5.

The story on the streets is that B&O did not release the technology to the manufacturer of the chassis - the same one that builds the BV8 - also no PIN.

I went to see the BV10 with my wife and we loved it. It is stunning.

But we decided to stick to our current BV 7 40" MKIII since it is has a built in DVD player (with the option for upgrading to built in blu ray), motorized wall bracket (very important for me at least), projector out option (hopefully to be used in the near future)

If you already have a BV, then stick with it. BV7 is far superior.

I'd say (if money is not an issue) that BV10 is only the best choice if you're gonna put it on the wall.

I would qualify that by saying the BV7 will be superior - at present the screen in the BV10 is better than the screen in the present BV7-40. It will not be for long! Obviously the sound and the connections of the BV7 are superior. I agree with Phil; if I had a BV7 and liked the look, I would not swap.

I own a BV8 and BV7-40 (BL7.4/BL9s) and have spent more time watching the BV8 recently. Although the audio is decent, when I move back to the BV7 it's a completely different experience. You hear nuances in the sound that you just don't get on the BV8. That's partly thanks to the 7.4 and the ALTs.

When I moved from the BV7-40 MKIII to BV7-40 MKIV, I was somewhat disappointed. The picture quality transition wasn't significant at all. Indeed, SD was better on the MKIII! So, I really struggle to believe there will be too much of a different between the BV7-40 MKIV and BV10-40 (and I have considered the BV10-40 myself).

I'll wait for a BV7-40 MKV and swap out the panel again, like I did when moving from the MKIII to MKIV. If I were you, I'd consider the same. Wait for the BV7-40 MKV and simply upgrade the panel and keep the stand, speaker and so on.

Both televisions look great, but I am a bit perplexed that B&O is still offering the BeoVision 7-40 with a 120Hz, CCF backlit LCD panel when you can "downgrade" to the 240Hz, LED edge lit LCD BV10. My decision to purchase the more expensive and better-looking BV7 has everything to do with B&O bringing its panel up to date. If they don't, I'll just get the BV10 and learn to live without the DSP features in my surround setup that my Avant had.

The BV7-40 will be coming out with the same type of backlit LED screen as the 7-55. It should re-establish the pecking order!

Might be worth noting that the panel is not nearly as big a factor as the video processor is. The 120hz panel w/ a BeoSystem 3 looks better than the 240hz panel without one.

Additionally, when the 240hz panel is matched with the BeoSystem 3, there won't be that significant a difference, as Moxxey has mentioned. 

But the variable dimming with the backlit LED will give better blacks.

I think it's a joke that they've yet again released a TV that isn't motorised. Keep your BV7, it may just be the last of the motorised tv's.

The BV10's wall mount isn't motorised - that's true - but the floor stand is.

The wall mount is made to be exceptionally thin - 8mm. I dare say a motorised wall mount can be made - maybe STB brackets can help. It just needs some mounting points changing. It will however not lie flush with the wall.

As you already have to drill or cut the wall to get properly concealed cables, I'd have thought that embedding a motorised rod mechanism to push out and pull back the TV on its hinge would not be too great an additional issue to resolve. The difficulty, however, might be in making a mechanism that also allows the TV to be suddenly pushed back by hand without the TV or hinge suffering damage...... it's a very diffferent situation to the central motorised stand.

Can't see too much of a problem with that if the power delivery between the rod, or whatever, and the motor allows slippage. And an MX motor stand for example isn't exactly freewheeling either. And for some ideas on how to keep the mechanism completely inside the actual device, there's no need to look further than into a Beolink 7000. I'm sure it would have had to to be located in the lower part of the BV10 and not behind the panel, though.

Previously, TVs have been a little special in that you don't have to start replacing belts when they get 10 years old. What a missed opportunity!

How's that a good thing? It annoys me immensely as it means I want the latest panel and the trade-in from the MKIV to MKV (as an example) is more than the cost of a new BV8 ;).

It would be the 'icing on the cake' if they gave us BV7 users a very good price to upgrade each year, but they do not...

They have to do it to keep the set competitive. However if you are happy with the set when you buy it, why 'upgrade'? As you have said, the differences are marginal. B&O have always had a rolling program of upgrades but I would not change something unless there was an immense change. However they cannot stay at one point forever hence the upgrades.

To be fair, Sony UK are doing a £150 trade-in deal at the moment. Considering their TVs are £699, that's not so bad, as a percentage of the retail price.
