    connection Bs5 to Beolab 5 & roles?

    hello,

i'm trying to connect my beolab 5s to my Beomaster 5 unit to get simple stereo.

i have no TV at the moment in this set-up.

i've connected a SPDIF from Beomaster 5 unit to beolab 5 (right speaker) and then another SPDIF from this speaker to beolab 5 (left speaker).

i've connected Powerlink from Beomaster 5 to Beolab (right speaker) and a powerlink from this speaker to the Beolab  (left speaker).

when i turn the dial of th Bs5 unit no sound and no response the lights on the speakers remain red.

perhaps the role of AM etc are wrong...?

    help would be much appreciated.

What option are the speakers in?

Are the beolab 5 set to left and right respectively?

I believe the BS5/BM5 must be audio master.  Otherwise, it will not send sound to its ports... at least this has been my experience.

sorry kingofsnake, what do you mean by options the speakers in - is there any way to change them?

yes, the speakers are set L and R properly.

    Bs5 & Bm5 are set to audiomaster.

    STY,

    Try thi:-

    1. Ensure the Dig Out of the BM5 goes to the "In" Dig connection on one BS5.

    2. Same for the 2nd BL5, Dig Out BL5-1 to Dig In BL5-2

    3. Connect your Powerling cables BM5 -> BL5-1 -> BL5-2 in the usual way. select appropriate L/R channels (not line).

    4. Audiomaster YES/NO on BeoSound 5 must be set to NO in this setup.

    5. The BeoSound 5 is to be setup to have BeoLab 5 directly connected
through the selection of SPEAKER TYPE on the BeoSound 5 display. This allows you to recieve a digital music signal

    6. Selecting option on the audio master:- AUTO configurating (option 1)

    Hope that works.

    ok,

    1. digital SPDIF connected between RIGHT beolab and dig.out of Bm5.

    2. SPDIF between both Beolab5s.

    3. Powerlink between Bm5.

    4. Powerlink between Beolab 5s. L/R selected.

    5. Bs5 speaker set to Beolab 5 and not NO BL5.

    6. Audiomaster in ROLES selected to NO.

    7. AM option is blanked out and unselectable....still not working.

    what now?

Re: connection Bs5 to Beolab 5 & roles?

I think everything is correct in your setup, but you need to select Audiomaster YES and OPTION 1 or 2 if you have no other Beosound (audiomaster) than your BS5.

    Mr 10% and Stefan,

BIG THANK YOU to you both.

oh dear, another problem long the beolab 5 and bes5 lines.

just packed my TV away for a move.

left with beolab 5 and bs5.

connected as above with same options.

now no sound from left channel unless i take the spdif cable out of the left speaker. when the spdif is connected no sound. when i take the spdif cable the powerlink sends an analogue signal not a digital signal.

does anyone know why inserting a spdif cable into the left speaker should suddenly stop the sound?

tried swiching cables but no luck.

is there any way to reset the speakers aside from leaving them switched off for 1/2 an hour and re-entering the pin codes?

Re: connection Bs5 to Beolab 5 & roles?

Maybe you should reset your BS5. When in Standby mode disconnect from the mains for a few minutes and reconnect. BS5/BM5 will automatically start up.

    Set your BS5 to audiomaster:YES, A.OPT.1, BL5:YES. BL5 setting: L.OPT 0

Check the L/R switches on the back of your BL5s. When you change the spdif cable left - right, you have still no sound on the LEFT speaker?

Does it work properly via Powerlink?

Has your BS5 got the last update? If yes, try the CD/A.MEM setting instead of N.MUSIC, N.RADIO.

Your connected TV was a masterlinked Beovision?

    all sorted.
i was using a thin powerlink cable between the 2 lab5s.
it now works with the thicker 'fully mounted' powerlink cable.
powerlink cables are NOT the same...
    many thanks for replying stefan.
