For sale and wanted sections of beoworld.

Just to open up some discussions, and maybe to get a debate going, why are the for sale/ wanted sections only open to gold silver members? I agree totally that posting on these sections should be only open to members, after all these are the people who are funding the site. But to limit your market to members only, you are buying from, in many cases, the more serious dealers, and equally selling to a closed market. I dont think that many poelpe get the 'bargains' they are looking for. I do agree however that the site is the ideal place for specialist bits and pieces. It would be interesting to know how many sales are taking place through the site.

I look forward to hearing your views, Simon.

Re: For sale and wanted sections of beoworld.

If I understand correctly, one purpose is to encourage members to sign up for the silver or gold memberships in order to provide financial support to the site.  A related purpose is based on the theory that those who pay membership fees and thereby support this site should be accorded some kind of incentive or benefit [other than the prize draws] -- something akin to the "user pays" principle.  Offering free products or services, while a good thing for a consumer, does not make commercial sense.

As for a targeted market, I understand your point.  You are correct, but those who cannot afford silver or gold status might not be able to afford to buy B&O or to pay the asking price or near asking price.  Further, the official B&O site offers free listings.  Although e-Bay charges fees, dedicated B&O enthusiasts often will trawl the B&O auction items.  So there are alternatives enthusiast sites to sell or buy.

As for "bargains", chances are those bargains will not be found on enthusiasts' sites as enthusiasts will generally have a better idea of the value or worth of an item than someone at a car boot sale.  You do get what you pay for.  Buying from an enthusiast generally will ensure the sale item has been properly cared for and not abused.  That cannot be guaranteed purchasing, say for example, a second-hand shop which treats the B&O like a piece of junk -- I have seen one MX6000 sitting under and behind piles of other used electronics getting all scratched up and dusty while the Beo4 was thrown into a drawer jumbled with all the other remotes.

If I am incorrect, I am sure a moderator or Lee will provide you with a better answer.

As a bronze member I thought i'd add my 2 cents. Restricting access to the for sale and wanted forum should act as an incentive for people to upgrade especially those looking for items that would be probably be in better condition as stated in previous posts. Also you would be able to get more precise information about the item being sold unlike on Ebay where a lot of people don't know much about what they are selling or even how to test the items, therefore its more of a risk. I have to say that on the old forum I did get a white BM 1900 for free and a BM 3500 in mint condition for a VERY good price. So those were quite a bargain but in all honesty they were very far and between. I'm not bothered that I haven't access to those forums. If you want access, then upgrade!! Simple!

Re: For sale and wanted sections of beoworld.

Perhaps it would be worth making a summary of the For Sale and Wanted sections available to Bronze members. This could consist of a table of Subject lines, and would have two benefits: 1. Bronze members could see another reason to upgrade, 2. Posting members would write the Subject line more carefully. Mark
