    Beosound 2 and iTunes 9

I foolishly let my old PowerBook G4 update my iTunes software the other day and now my Beosound 2 isn't being recognised by iTunes. Whenever I hold down Go with iTunes open, it just crashes iTunes and closes. Is there something I need to do??? Help!

well I tried to reproduce your problem and I will admit that I am now confused.

I am running Snow Leopard and iTunes 9.

Earlier this year I had my BS 2 repaired ... so I am not certain of its firmware level and its iTunes/Windows setting.

As you probably know getting the BS2 to switch modes is a tedious three handed process ... and not matter how many times I go between what i think is iTunes mode and Windows mode I can not get iTunes to recognise the BS2.

When I think I am in iTunes mode the BS2 shows up on my desktop as a hard drive configured in MS-DOS (32-bit) mode.

When I think the BS2 is in Windows mode it does not show up on the desktop nor in iTunes.

I think I shall go kick a Windows machine ... sorry I mean 'boot' :-)

PS no crashes along the way, but plenty of complaints from MacOSX about me removing a drive without ejecting it but that is standard/normal behaviour ....

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

    Thanks Elephant

I really wished I hadn't bothered upgrading now. Can I 'downgrade' back to the earlier version of iTunes?

You should be able to downgrade IF a) you can find the previous version archived on the net some where.  Apple doesn't normally provide access to older versions and b) if this upgrade did not upgrade your iTunes library or metadata.  Typically, point release do not, but I don't know about this exact one.  I was able to do this a few years ago by searching for "downgrade iTunes" on the net.

However, you don't need iTunes to recognize the BS2 anymore so long as OSX does.  You can copy music via Finder (drag from iTunes or Finder within the iTunes library) into the BS2 (which should show up as an external drive).  I gave up on the iTunes integration many broken releases ago.

    Hi Stan

Can I simply drag files out of the iTunes folder into the BS2? I tried to add to some existing music on my 2GB SD card this way and it did not show up...and this was after discovering that I could not downgrade to earlier versions of iTunes because the older versions could not open up the iTunes music library. All this because I let the software update automatically. I'm not happy >:(

Yes, you just drag from iTunes to the BS2.

I think there is some button sequence that causes the BS2 to rescan the card to find new music... or you can delete the index file (although this has the potential to change the sequence of music on the card...  I haven't done this for while... let me try it and I'll let you know the exact steps.

I was drawn into iTunes 9 by the wireless library sharing feature. I tried it on one of my laptops. Bad idea everyone, not worth it. It is soooooo much slower operation than the previous version. This may have been posted above already (if so I apologize, havent read all of the thread) but it must be emphasized. I am downgrading asap.

    AAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

After about four hours of faffing around, I finally managed to sort the problem.

Firstly, for some strange reason, my BS2 wouldn't let me drag and drop folders from iTunes 9 into it, so the only way to load music up was to have effectively one large 'track' of albums stored in the Music folder. This was unacceptable, so I finally managed to find a way of downgrading back to iTunes 8.2 from a search on the Apple user forums. If anyone is interested I will post a link.

In the meantime, stay away from iTunes 9. It's TOXIC :P
