    CX100 - New Life....

    Good job!

I just refoamed some CX50s to use with my new Beomaster 2000. They still need a little playing in as the sound is slightly muffled compared to my old CX50s that had been well played in. Did you just replace the whole drivers then? How do they sound?

They sound just perfect, my dad has also a pair, but I haven't compared. But maybe a little bit more powerful..

My setup in my bedroom, Beomaster 3500, BeoGram Cd 3500, 2 Black CX100 and 2 White CX50

My wish is now CONA sub, and maybe the ML/MCL Converter for the power for the sub..

And then at Chrismas when my Beo Time arrives, I will wake me up to the sound of my setup..

I have a Cona that I used to use with a Beosystem 5000 and some other CX50s in the bedroom in my old house. The Cona definitely adds bass to the CX50s, and I guess it would do the same to CX100s.

Don't forget that you run the speaker outputs through the Cona, then run the CXs directly from the Cona itself. The Cona has its own crossover that takes the bass for itself, then runs the higher frequencies to the CX speakers. Of course, you can run the Cona by itself, but that was the simplest way envisaged by B&O when it was in production.

For what it's worth, I run my Cona nowadays from the Speaker 2 outputs from my Beomaster 8000. Other speakers are not connected directly to the Cona. The Beovox Pentas I use are run directly from the Speaker 1 outputs. No need for the Cona's crossover to decide what bass it will take when two pentas have eight bass drivers between them!

The Cona must be the next move, when I don't have afford to Beolab2..

I know about connect the CX100 through the Cona Sub.. But I think my BeoMaster3500  would have problems running all the speakers..

    2 * 80 W CX100

    2*  80W CX50

    1 *  60W Cona Sub

    BeoMaster3500: 2 x 20 W / 8 ohms

I have the Watt againt me..

Would the best system be :  ML/MCL Converter 2*30 W running 2*CX100 + Cona and the run the CX50 on the BeoMaster3500?

I don't know much about the MCL amp I'm afraid, but it does sound like you have a lot of speakers connected to a relatively low-powered amplifier. Maybe someone else will know more?

I would say get a Beomaster 8000 otherwise - no lack of power there!

The MCL amp is more than capable of running a pair of CX100 or a CX50/Cona combo.

As my home theater, I Use 2 MCL2p amps in combination with my AV7000 to power my 2 front and 2 back speakers. Works very well for me.
    All of them are CX100.

I suggest you use the BM3500 with the CX50/CONA combination and use a full MCL2p (ML/MCL) with the IR eye to power the CX100's.

Sure you can have it without IR.
Just makes it possible to control the BM from wherever those speakers are located.

I got the older model (MCL2P) from ebay for around 80$...  great if you don't need the masterlink connection

    Re: CX100 - New Life....

Sorry for my ignorance, but I have a pair of Beovox C75 that I would like to restore... when you said "new speakers", where did you get them? are they B&O replacements? other brand?

    Thanks!

It's just okay, you can go to you local Bang & Olufsen Shop and ask for the speakers.. If you dont got a local dealer.. Maybe call a Danish company to get the new speakers, and then send them. Can't see where you from..

    Re: CX100 - New Life....

Drivers for C75's are no longer available but I know of someone who simply used the CX50/100 units and the results were very good. You could always refoam your existing ones to keep them original. I wouldn't consider using different manufacturers drivers as historically they don't match up with most Beovox speakers.

I am aware of the problem with the c75, about the drivers... I would replace with cx50/100 drivers, no one can here or see the different. And then your speakers are upgraded to cx50/100..

    Re: CX100 - New Life....

Jankay , The CX100 drivers do not fit straight into the c75s the holes are out of alignment. I tried to do this  but what i ended up having the C75s speakers re-foamed, and they work brilliantly after some hours bedding in.

    Re: CX100 - New Life....

Thanks a lot for all your quick responses. Well, I am based in Buenos Aires, Argentina and there's a B&O store represented by a distributor in town. I will ask if they also import spare parts, but I'm not sure. Otherwise I should order from Europe or USA.

The drivers were already refoamed when I bought the speakers, and honestly was not a nice work what they did. That's why I'm considering a deep restore... although I can't assure this is affecting the sound quality. I still could't test them deeply.

I assume a capacitor replacement on the crossovers would be a complement.

Anyway, there will be still the holes alignment difference to resolve... I guess it can be solved.
