    Beomaster 5000 Mute Problem

    Hi,

I just installed a replacement Beomaster 5000 into my Beosystem 5000 and have two small problems I hope someone can help me with. First, the mute circuit does not work properly. The speakers in the main room, speaker 1 will only mute when I insert my headphones. It does not respond to any of my remotes or from the front panel, and the main speakers also turn on when I activate a second set of speakers through the MCL unit. Th second set of speakers does mute properly. Could this be a simple fix?

    Re: Beomaster 5000 Mute Problem

    Hi Dom

The output to speaker 1 can be shut off either by the headphone jack (which is working in your case) or a relay circuit which receives and interprets the mute request.  It sounds to me that the mute relay is not operating at all and that could be caused by any number of potential faults.  If you have the equipment and skills, you can get access to the circuit diagram and trace the fault.  Otherwise it could be a job for your local technical guy.  My first steps would be to access the relay and check to see whether the coil voltage is changing when you activate the mute button.  If the voltage is behaving correctly then it would indicate that the relay is either burnt out or stuck.

Have fun and I hope you get it working.  I like the BM5000 and it sounds good.

    Geoff
