    Leica M9 is coming 9.9.09.

Knowing a few of us on this site use the Leica M8, I'm thrilled with the idea Leica is producing a real successor to the M8!

It will be FF and aprox 18MP.

Don't know what the price will be, but I'm hoping under 5000 euro.

I can't say that I'm surprised, but at the same time I'm completely surprised. I haven't heard a thing about it and it wasn't that long ago that they were trying to get us to upgrade to M8.2. Personally, I was holding out for the M8.4 ;) Well my wife has been eyeing my M8 lately. Now here is a way for her to get it.

Pretty cool but considering the price I think I'm pretty satisfied with my M8.

Now the X1 might find it's way into our home.  Get a leather case from Luigi and my wife has a great fashion accessory that I can borrow for tripsBig Smile  I love the manual dials on the top for both aperture and shutter.  Finally a "point and shoot" that you can actually use manually without taking two minutes of menu diving to adjust.

It would be nice to have a variable lens, but I respect why they didn't.

    Funny how things go...

Got my advert today and was going to post to this thread -how excited I was not about the M9, but rather the X1Laughing

Nice piece and claimed to approach the original M8 at a remarkable price!... good grief!!!

I'm going to get the M9... Not sure this year, but early 2010 I think. And I have to sell my M8 first.

Yeah the new M9 would certainly be a nice upgrade.  It's funny that it didn't occur to me to sell my M8 to help pay the difference because I love to collect cameras so much that I forgot it was an option.Laughing  I wonder what the second-hand market is like?  You're probably wise to wait a bit till the crazy selling stops.

Just realized the new M9 only goes to 1/4000th shutter.   Why?!  Looks like I'm going to stick with the M8 so I can continue shooting with the Noctilux in sunlight at f1.

    Michael,

That's the upgraded shutter, you get 1/180 flash sync as well, famous from the M8.2. Laughing

This don't bother me at all, and I guess I'll just trade in my M8 at the store when buying the M9, which right now seems to be happening as soon as next week... Call me crazy....

Anyhow, I think the M9 will be a great camera, much better than the M8. Partly for it's FF, partly for enabling the user to SELECT what lens he/she is using instead of spending a fortune on coding old lenses!

I definitely think the M9 is THE camera we've been waiting for, just a shame about the shutter. But like you said it won't be much of an issue for most users and certainly nothing compared to the great improvements the M8 was in need of.
