Re: Have you seen this? Unbelievable
You would get about half a mile beofre the Police stopped you for illegal spacing and characters.. they are very hot on that nowadays due to the number plate recognition systems which they use for anti-terrorism procedures in town centres etc.
If you bought that, you'd be wasting your money.

On number plates, I'm an optometrist and have been using W9 EYE for my last few cars (the 9 comes from the fact it's a 9-3 saab convertable) Anyone else with appropriate number plates? Brian

Re: Have you seen this? Unbelievable
I have about a dozen of them!! It used to be a hobby of mine until B&O 'consumed' me and my spare money! I have, amongst others... 1 PRO - Bought from the Snooker Player Ray Reardon, and currently on my Dads 7 Series. TEE 8T - Good Golfing Plate RNA1R - Looks like Ryanair, and is on my Father in laws BMW. People always ask him if he's a pilot, and i think he secretly loves it! and my own personal plate is... of course... 9 LEE I bought this from a wealthy flower packer, who's small son wanted his name on Daddys car. He duly bought the plate, and the son changed his mind and told him to take it off. Unbelievable. Still, i got it for a good price, and i'll keep it forever. Lee

Re: Have you seen this? Unbelievable
Does this mean that in the UK, you can put whatever you want on your car's plate? Here in Luxembourg, it is AA 1111 or 11111 or 1111 (A=any letter; 1=any number). Lee, does the 9 in "9 Lee" have any signification, or ...?

Another naff ebay one that keeps cropping up which I found whilst doing a B&O search. I politely asked him about the legality of it and got a stream of abuse similar to some posted on his feedback page. Very nice man - not Chris.

Well, yes and no. Some plates are issued by the government at auction, some were issued any time from the 1920's onwards and have been carried from car to car since then, but most people just take whatever the government assigns them. There is a huge market in number plates. My 1 PRO has been valued at £100,000 !! Honestly - have a look! It's ridiculous, but for a Pro sportsman - this is only a weeks wages i suppose. If anyone buys it for that, i'll call them up whilst sipping my champagne and thank them personally! The 9 of 9 LEE has no significance at all. I'd like to say it has, but it hasn't! HJJ 1 (Henrys) is a perfect example of the "ultimate" plate here in the UK. Your initials followed by the number 1 are the top of the ladder, and are highly prized. LSM 1 or LEE 1 would be my dream plate, but i don't have a spare quarter of a million pounds going spare! Lee

The Mayor in my town has THE 1 & THE 2 and was offered 5 million for them, but local protests prevented it.

True, but a very fast tin box with nice wheels and a good number plate can bring a lot of pleasure!

Re: Have you seen this? Unbelievable
People who don't live in the UK can be forgiven for not understanding this culture. Here, since September 2001 number plates have been thid format XX 11 XXX The first two letters denote where it is registered BA to BY = Birmingham H stands for Hampshire and Dorset therefore HA to HJ = Bournemouth HK to HY = Portsmouth HW = Isle of Wight The two numerals tell you the time it was registered. Since UK cars are registered twice yearly (March 1st and September 1st) then the first number is 0 for March and 5 for September. In 2011 it will be 1 for March and 6 for September. The second number is the year. The three letters at the end are totaly random and mean nowt.
Hence the number plate HA55 OPS was registered in Bournemouth in September 2005 (maybe on a Seat Ibiza) but will be of immence value to Mr Hassop who has a chain of supermarkets called "HASSOPS" and an Aston Martin! I am quite lucky, all local cars are registered in Preston (PA to PT) and I bought my car in September 2005. My surname is Tulloch. I am a driving instructor (ask Ed) My reg??? PA55 TUL . PA55 TUL . PA55 TUL . Andy T.

I own a Landrover Discovery diesel and a Volvo. I live in the middle of the Cambridgeshire fens and most of the year the cars are covered in sh!t so the number plate is invisible. The roads are so bumpy and full of potholes that I'm afraid fancy wheels don't last very long either.

Re: Have you seen this? Unbelievable
I'm wating for 2011 when my surname becomes available. Having said that, I doubt if I'll be able to afford it. Henry, as a police traffic officer, anyone entering my town with a nuber plate that has the wrong font and therefore unreadable by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPS) cameras, will be prosecuted.
