    Beo 2200 tape deck problem

Hello from Aberdeen - it's been a while.................I have just acquired a Beocenter 2200 with a seperate CDX drive and 2 pairs of speakers (X25-6335 and 2 6515's) - I paid £100 for the lot. I've read the reviews about the 2200 not being made by B & O and the sound being thin and weedy but I thought differently - although that was with the 6515 speakers which were NOT original to the system and  were acquired latterly.

The onboard cassette tape drive was non-functional and found the drive belt on the flywheel had fallen off due to age and I replaced it with one from a salvaged B & O drive - it's tight and does not come off. After re-assembly everything works LP deck, tuner and external CD; but when tape is selected and play symbol is pressed the mechanism comes forward to engage the tape and play starts but swithes itself off after a few seconds???? I suppose I may have a bad connexion somewhere on a sensor perhaps - you know what it's like when yu go into a vintage system for the 1st time in years....

Suggestions please, accepted with much thanx,

    Bryan Hide Miller Dunbar.

Re: Beo 2200 tape deck problem

    Hi Bryan,

You're right in there being a sensor - there's an auto-stop mechanism, which triggers a solenoid to disengage the play, if a reed switch is not closed. This reed switch is held closed by the electromagnetic force created by a rotating ferrite wheel in close proximity to the reed switch.

You need more than 1 belt, and member Dillen can supply the belts for you.

You will also have to soften/renew the rubber on the idler wheels - best done by holding a tissue with alcohol against the rubber wheels, while the idlers are rotating.

Once the rubber is soft again, there will be sufficient friction against all the plastic wheels to rotate the ferrite wheel, and keep the reed switch closed - I have spares if you need!
