Dust under glass of Beosound 5...!

i have had my Bs5 for nearly 2 months but just noticed dust has started to appear under the glass.

i have cleaned the glass plate and checked with lighting at different angles and dust has definitely started to appear (especially around the wheel).

i know they had to replace the seal on the first production units but i have a horrible feeling this is far from sorted. i'm beginning to feel very disappointed with this product - after all the work in setting it up and now something as unprofessional as this...

was wondering if you could all check and see if this is the case with yours??

Search the BS5 forum - this has definitely been discussed before.

Ok, that's not good is it! I went through the BS5 forum and can't believe how many negative comments and issues there are

I'm curious; does anybody own a beosound 5 and simultaneously feel that they have got what they've payed for...?

Re: Dust under glass of Beosound 5...!

I've had mine for about 2 mos and use it almost daily.  It has lived up to my expectations, and, overall, I'm very satisfied.  No dust under my glass.  No phantom reboots or unexpected hangs for me.  It has performed just as expected.

This forum is like any other - people with problems talk a lot more than those without.  If you take a close look, there are a small handful of posters that account for most of the negative comments (and then there are those who criticise because it is not to their liking).  No offense to these folks, if I had problems, I'd probably talk a lot, too.

I haven´t noticed any dust and I am one of the satisfied owners with no problems at all. Last week I also moved the BS5 to a new spot on the wall with no visibles cables at all. It really make its design nice to look at.

Re: Dust under glass of Beosound 5...!

Sounds to me like you have been sold a demo/pre release model :

Mount dust prevention kit in BeoSound 5 display version before sale

It is important that you mount the dust prevention kit in BeoSound 5 ’display’ versions before selling them to customers.

BeoSound 5 produced after 24.12.2008 have been modified and do not need the dust prevention kit.

The dust prevention kit has part no. 3376199.
I would contact your dealer and get this sorted out under warrenty

Funny that, I have the same problem. I also have the same problem with my BV7-40. Perhaps I should ask for a refund.

Yes, 2 months after buying,  many recoverys, software update, troubleshooting etc.  I'm finaly happy with my Beosound 5. Now it works like it should and I love it.

It is so decent that friends etc. even don't notice that this could have anyhting to do with music! :-)

that's precisely why i am asking. the unit was bought this summer after the modification to prevent dust...

it's something that i thought had been sorted but obviously hasn't and was wondering if others had noticed in under the glass in their newish units.

contacted the dealer and they are looking into it and speaking to denmark.

    let's wait and see.

Maybe it was a stock product, made before the modification Hmm

ha ha, if only it was my sunglasses but sadly it isn't

still waiting to hear from b&o about this issue. may take some time. i guess they wouldn't want to replace the Bs5 unit only to find that it happened again - maybe a more permanent solution is in the pipeline...

Aagh! Dust under the glass of my BS5 too!

Though my dealer suggests the 'modified' version was only introduced May or June.

    Now awaiting the seal upgrade.

Re: Dust under glass of Beosound 5...!

I had mine a few months now. Runs with out a hitch - only issue I have is to do with a milti disk album. the BS5 displays them incorrectly

    it displays them

    Song1  Disk1

    Song1  Disk2

    Song2 Disk1

    Song2 Disk2

    etc

OK for MOTS but if it's a live concert album - very frustrating

But the unit is great - glad I bought it

Re: Dust under glass of Beosound 5...!

    Hi,

that's why I'm editing the tags of the tracks manualy. I removed "Disc 1" etc. on such tracks and ripped it as a "compilation CD" in iTunes.

I only rip classical, Jazz and instrumental music etc. in Losless, electronic music is ripped in MP3 320kbit/s.

Yes, should be able to get around this by renaming the disk or renumbering the the tracks.

I am more worried about gapless not beeing available for any other format them Wav which I cant do on my mac.

Re: Dust under glass of Beosound 5...!

    Hi

When you look at the songs on BM5 they are stored correctly

i.e.  each disk is stored separately and the songs numbered 1, 2 ,3 etc

It is the BS5 that displays them incorrectly

    I tried renaming the songs

    Disk 1   songs 1-15

    Disk 2  songs 18- 26

But the BS5 still displays the original

1 – song title (which is off disk1)

1  - song title (which is off disk2)

2 – song title (which is off disk1)

2 – song title (which is off disk2)

    etc

    any more help greatly appreciated

peter2, i take it yours is an older version before the modification to prevent dust accumulation?

my new unit's very new (july 2009) and straight from the factory - not a old unit - so i am rather confused as to why this should happen...?

Certainly one of the first delivered by my dealer earlier in the year, and only noticed the dust from the comments made here.

As I understand it the revised version with the seal has been available for a couple of months, so I assume this would include yours...

The update kit is being made available shortly, but in the scheme of things it is a very minor issue - not very noticeable (on mine).

"We can inform you that the BeoSound 5 can not be made completely airtight so dust will in some cases eventually find it's way under the glass.

The frontglass and LCD screen can be cleaned by a Bang & Olufsen technician.
Therefore we advise you to contact your Bang & Olufsen dealer again to obtain help.
