Connecting a Beosystem 5500 to a ML system

In the writeup about the 5500, it says that it supports MCL - and so I think I could use a MCL/ML converter box to link it to my ML system. I can't see a MCL plug on the back of it though - anyone know how to link it?

Have a look at the speaker sockets, they each have an extra pin and you need the MCL cable with these two speaker plugs on the end.

Below are the cables I am talking about, use the first cable to wire into a junction box or use the second to plug into say the MCL/ML converter

    MLC

    Hi frog,

There is also an other solution: Datalink to ML converter.

I have this solution in use, it is a small box called Beolink converter, see here:

    http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=983

Connect cable 7 pol DIN Datalink from the Aux or Tape2 socket Beomaster 5500 to the Beolink converter, and than connect your ML into this converter for linking to the rest of your Beolink network.

MCL/ML converter has the advantage to have a amplifier and is intended for MCL Beolink wired house to newer ML Main products.

    Regards, Robert

    Robert,

Yes, that sounds like how I want to do it as I have a Beolink Converter. When I first used it with a 2500 system, I needed to connect up two DIN plugs - do I have to do the same here?

If you have no speakers connected to your Beomaster 5500, you need to run a powerlink cable between the powerlink sockets on the 5500 and the converter.

Fully wired if you have speakers with display, othervise the thin cable might do (i believe).

Ah now that makes me remember - that's exactly what I had to do for the 2500. But as the 5500 doesn't have powerlink sockets - what happens then?

    Thanks for the tips.

    regards

    Hi frog,

You only need one Din cable from the Beomaster 5500 to the converter.

For the setup and option codes I can also recommend you to call your B&O dealer or ask this forum. If you describe all your equipment and what is connected in which room, they are able to help you. The best way to a 100% working B&O system in your home !

    Regards, Robert

    Thanks,

I have no problem with the option codes, just couldn't remember how MCL to ML systems stuck together (it has been some years....)

Thanks for your help - one DIN cable is much easier. If I recall, the 2500 needed two because it didn't fully implement MCL.

You are of course right - the solution I described works from 6500 and onwards, not for the earlier models without PL-sockets.

Re: Connecting a Beosystem 5500 to a ML system

I'm still puzzled as to how the line level audio outputs connect to the Beolink converter - surely you need more than the AUX connector?

I tell you, this MCL stuff is SO retro!

The correct outputs are contained within the aux connector. Just out of interest it has inputs as well. The aux connector is like the tape connector without the datalink.
