will a MCP5500 work with a BS4500?
I am simply curious as to whether a master control panel 5500 will work with a beosystem 4500 or not.
Thanks all.

I'm going out on a limb here, but i think it will only control the BeoMaster / BeoSystem 5500 !!
At best, it can control the 5000 system as well, but i must confess i've never actually tried to do that.

Are you sure? - I know the MCP5000 is an oddball and only works with the BM5000 but I thought from the 5500 onward were compatible with Beolink 1000 etc. Product page says
"Unlike the MCP 5000, it used what were essentially Beolink 1000 codes but required an additional code to be sent by the Beomaster to allow two way control. Only the Beomaster 5500, 6500 and 7000 provided these signals so it was of limited value with other systems".
Sounds like it may do something but certianly won't be two way.

Re: will a MCP5500 work with a BS4500?
All the command codes sent by the MCPs are "long" versions, i.e they include both source (MCP) and destination (Beomaster) addresses in addition to the actual command, so 2-way equipment knows how to respond to them. So, even the simple commands like "CD" or "standby" are different when sent by MCPs vs. the 1-way Beolinks. Beolink 5000 and 7000 have their own source addresses but can send the simple commands as well for configured 1-way equipment.
So in short: only Beomaster 5500/6500/7000 will work and respond to commands sent by MCP5500/6500/7000 (and all combinations of these will work as well, they are completely identical with regards to remote control). Beomaster 5000 / MCP5000 only work with each other.
I'm not sure if I completely understand what the product page is trying to say, but I suspect it's wrong or at least ambiguous

Re: will a MCP5500 work with a BS4500?
I've never yet been able to control a Beomaster 7000 with an MCP5500 or such like.
As far as i was aware, software is retrograde - so the later models control earlier ones, but earlier ones cannot control later ones..

OK, I believe you if you have tried it - I only have an MCP6500 and I think I managed to control a BM7000 with it. I'll try to verify that later, the GF has that BM now... It is possible the addresses were updated with each generation, but I can't see any other than commercial reasons for that
Anyway, I still hold that only BM5500/6500/7000 will give a damn about any command sent by these MCPs.

Re: will a MCP5500 work with a BS4500?
Actually the MCP5500 will actually work most units - but you will not get any two way control and you will get a message 'No Contact' on the MCP. So it will, to an extent, work the 4500 system but nothing that requires two way - so no programming etc. I don't have one easily to hand so I cannot tell you exactly what it will do though. It does work with any of the 5500, 6500 and 7000 systems though.

Thank you Peter. My reason for this thread is because a very good deal has presented itself.
Put everyone out of their misery - buy it and tell us if it works with the BS4500!

That had actually crossed my mind, and I think you may have just sealed the deal!
I'll keep you all posted.

I should say that it doesn't work very well! I used one with a 9500 at times simply because it was there - I seem to remember the volume worked and I think the source buttons - but I also remember some delay. A Beolink 1000 is far better!

My MCP5500 work fine with the BM5500 stack but won't / doesn't work with my BS9000 thats on the wall in the same room.
Mind you this is ideal for me! :-)

Please tell me why anyone would want to buy a MCP5500, good deal or not?????
They are unreliable at their present age, they eat batteries, are liable to leak battery acid over whatever they are sitting on and will usually need new hinges which are most definitely no longer available from B&O!!!!
And they are LARGE!!!!!
Whats more, they only work properly with BM5500, 6500 and (wait for it Lee) 7000. They will activate some commands of those units that are designed with BL1000 codes but it cannot really be said that they work in any way properly and in fact can be quite anoying in that half the command sequence will be OK and then you get stuck.
Unless you have a unit that it was actually designed to control, my advice is to leave it alone to die a natural death!
