    Vintage B&O componets selection.

I decided to bay second stereo system.  My first stereo system consist from modern components. At first I looked towards the Japanese vintage components, such as Aurex, Diatone and Micro Seiki. But when I have seen vintage components from B&O, I was shocked.  The things from another planet and time.I have found models which would like to buy: Speakers – Beovox S 45-2, Receiver – Bemaster 2400, Turntable – Beogram 9500As I know, B&O uses old standard DIN connection. With connection Speakers and receiver- no problem. Will I have problem with  Bemaster 2400 and Beogram 9500 connection?

They will work but not by remote. The Beogram 9500 uses Datalink which the 2400 did not. What you want is a Beomaster 2400-2, Beogram 4004 amd S45-2s. I would suggest a Beogram CDX would also be an excellent addition rather than the Beocord 2400 which, although it has good performance, is not as stylish. The record player will be controlled by the Beomaster remote.

An alternative if you prefer the newer (less good!Laughing ) record player would be the Beosystem 4500 which shares the style of the 2400 with the advantage of Datalink and compatibility with the present range of equipment.

I recently assembled my first vintage B&O.

Beomaster 901, Beogram 1202, Beovox 800. And I'm stunned with results ! I absolutely can't believe how good is the sound system reproduce ... Full of bass, beautifully detailed, clear and worm ....

Don't take me wrong, but it is much better on lows volumes then my BL8000 ! It is hard to say that, but it is true ...

Maybe you should considerate little older models: Beomaster 4400, Beogram 3000, Beovox S45 ?

And Peter thank you for all suggestions you gave me, this system make my life happier Smile

One  good thing about building a vintage B&O system is it isn't prohibitively expensive to try a few combinations  before you find what is right for you.

In terms of value for money, Vintage B&O is the best value hi-fi you will find anywhere.

As I have aged and been forced into bar-hopping retirement (not by my choice) I needed something to fill my pleasure zone. I have started collecting what I believe to be the tops of vintage (and not so vintage) items from varied realms and have now started limiting them to specific manufacturers. With regards to AV, I started picking up several brands and have now sold/traded off 99% of all other brands and have concentrated solely on B&o.

IMHO, and to your point Simon: I agree, B&o is not just the best value with regards to AV, but it may just be the best value of anything I have grabbed up over the years!

To the OP: I second what Peter has said! Go for those pieces and look for a BG4004. And as the other fellows have said, try some other gear as well if you want! The BM4400 is spectacular!

P.S. Welcome to BeoWorld! Enjoy the ride!

Jaff what was the main reason you've choose to stay with B&O ?

Can you give me some more about other brands you've experienced over the year ?

I'm curious .... Now I'm facing beauty of my vintage system ....

Well, I suppose that it is for the same reasons as all us! I think that the OP, Borisvk, may have said it best in his first post!

I was shocked. The things from another planet and time.

As a kid growing up in the 70-80's, I was just blown away! I then learned that the attraction was much more than just visual. The wonderful warm, clear sound / the incredible build quality and attention to detail / the wonderful use of materials and the feel they provide / the way they can all interact / and last but not least (you'll think I am crazy) but I love the way they smell! The only sensory pleasure they do not provide is taste! I think I am going to lick my BM2400 after I post this. Erm

Nothing dramatic or radical... Sansui, NAD, Nak, Accuphase, Denon, Technics, Carver, Luxman, ADS, Kef, (BOSE -sorry, I am from the USA...) and miscellaneous other odds and ends...blah, blah, blah. I still use a Denon in a non B&o surround setup. Great stuff, but too much of an appliance. Still have a few odd NAD pieces floating around, and an amazing pair of rare 40+ year old teak Kef Duette K2 deLuxe. From the Japanese, the Nak 730 was a standout! I probably should have kept that! Laughing

    ++++EDIT++++

How funny... I googled "Nak 730" after posting this... very first hit: my former 730! Laughing

Oh, the BM2400 has sort of a dusty-saltiness to it, at least at the tip of my tongue.

Laughing  Jeff, not sure I want to try my beomaster though .....

I had a pair of Bose 901's that were pretty good (Canada here) . Though large, needed it's own equalizer and a pain to position right ....
Just too much of an audiophile thing for me as it needed too much tweaking all the time.

    Re: Vintage B&O componets selection.

    Thank's all.

Peter, i am thinking, to buy or not to buy CD player to a vintage stereo. In my mind, the vintage stereo system shoud be consist from amplifier, speakers, vinyl, tape deck and REAL TO REAL.  Last 8 years, i am buying only vinyl. I will try to find Beogram 4004 in Germany (the best way for me. Because, to buy vintage in Moscow- is not good idea). I have already found reciever 2400 (not 2400-2) and S 45-2 spekers.

To  burantek I am from Russia, Moscow.

Perhaps you could have a play with some member's older gear?- I couldn't understand this phrase. Sorry.

    Borisvk,

If you have already sourced a 2400 rather than a 2400-2, then you should be open to any of the 400x turntables. The 4004 was mentioned as it would work with a Remote Commander (remote control). So, look for a 4000/4002/4004. Regarding cassettes, the later BC2000 deck matched the styling of the 2400. There may be some height variance, but that can be dealt with easy enough. The S45's are great speakers and well matched to the 2400, so you are good there!

Sorry, I mean perhaps there is a BeoWorld member in your area that might allow you to try out their older B&o equipment...

In fact, there is at least one fairly active member in Moscow. Perhaps he'll post here!

Good luck with your search. It is going to be fun!

    Hi Boris,

the oldest CD players - even B&O - are about 25 years old, so you can quite well call them vintage! As a matter of fact, I'm just now listening to my Sony CDP-30 I bought new in 1985.

If you plan to build a system older than that, a CD player might not be that suitable unless you hide it somewhere. Reel to reel tape recorders were pretty much gone by early/mid-70s and replaced by C-cassette recorders, so they might be more appropriate for a 60s setup.

I am only look narrowly, reading about B&O. Beomaster 2400 i have found hear http://www.audio-extasa.eu/bang-olufsen-beomaster-2400-receiver-p-894.html

    and S 45-2 hear to http://www.audio-extasa.eu/bangolufsen-beovox-s452-speakers-p-821.html

they also have several record player, but they are from modern line's.

I have found only 1 second hand seller in Moscow, his shop located near my hose.  He has several models of B&o, but i am shure, that they are good. That's why i am not going to spoil my mood.

Yes, we can call vintage. But, i don't like CD as a format. Several  years ago, i  make a choise-  vinyl. Yes, 1st CD's with AAD (Analog analog digital) recording, sound better than ADD or DDD. If i couldn't buy something on vinyl, i   buy CD. but i try to buy CD's wich were recorded in Japan.   They better quality.

i am planing my system without CD player, but may be with C- casset recorder. About this i am still thinkig, because i have a very good 3 head c-casset vintage recorder.
