Bought a Playstation 3 today to hookup to my Beovision 8-40.

Started with the sound settings of the PS3 to auto; this sometimes gave same scary sounding noises (loud sharp noises) when switching sources (PS3 to DTV) or stopping games. It seems that the sound settings of the PS3 need to be adapted.

The specification I have for the BV8-40 are:
Audio: Mpeg1, Mpeg2, AAC, AAC+ and AC3 decoding and downmix 
Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, DTS Digital Surround | Neo:6, Pro-Logic II

What settings do I need to make on the PS3? I can of course set DTS and DD, but what do I need to set for linear PCM (2.0 and 5.1), which bit-rates can be set?

Maybe it's related to the BV8 and not the PS3, as when you switch from XMB to a game and back, the PS3 is switching from 1080p to 720p, and in my setup it only cause a mode change on the screen or the videoprojector. Maybe the first software issue with the BV8-40?

did you use hdmi?

I also have a ps3 connected to bv8-40, I set everything to auto, and pcm, I did not experience any loud pop or noise from the tv.

I have the same problem with my PS3. I don't have a B&O TV (sad for me) but I still get this on all settings (with or without an amp). I wouldn't look into it too much.

Ps3 quality issue then... Try to exchange your Ps3 in order to get a better one...
