    The powerlink cables

How many pins are the powerlink Mk3 using? 4, 8.. etc? I want to build in a cable in my own made floor stands to my rear bl4.

I checked some old threads in german, got them translated by Altavistas Babelfish, really cool stuff! Anyway... they never came with any answer

     thanks!

Isn´t the mk3 "better" than mk2?  For the apprentice, 8 pins wins over 4 pins. Is there something more to it?

Regarding the floor stands, no problems... pictures will come.  I am modifying the IKEA speaker floor stands, don´t rember the name of it. Looks like stainless but it´s a zink history.

You need 8 pin Mk II if you have beolabs with display (Pentas, 3000 and 5000).

    Re: The powerlink cables

Ok, my manual to my bl4´s says that I am supposed to use mk3, so there´s nothing to argue about there.

But what is the tech. difference between mk2 and mk3? The mk3 uses only 4 pins we are told, but doesn´t that make the mk2 to a better cable? 8 pins are more than 4.....

    Re: The powerlink cables

So there is no mis-understanding about Mark III Powerlink cable, below is a picture.

You will note it has 4 wires -- Yellow -- Blue which are both un-screened and Brown & Green which each have their own screen.

By the dent (locating guide) on the DIN plug in the plastic is a trangle.

    Powerlink Plug

I will try and find a good picture of a Mark II cable later

Other points about the Mark III are that they have five (5) pins connected, the four coloured wires plus the screen

Mark II cables have one less wire which is the blue wire. I will provide a picture later.

    Thanks for the pic!

Ok, 5 pins then. When you look at a schematic, which of the pins are in use? Just like the 2nd schematic at http://www.beotech.co.uk/misc2.htm ?

I have to make a cable that goes within my floor stands, or after a second thought I will ask some electric guy for help I don´t want any huming sound afterwards or any other unpleasent suprises.

A connection in the botton and one to the speakers with some wire between is that must be mounted in. The connections will be fitted afterwards couse there to fat for getting through the stand.

    Hello,

Peter Pan has some very useful links on the Scandinavian forum.  I believe you will find most of the information on this link:  http://www.hifi4all.dk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32157&PN=1

     Regards

    Re: The powerlink cables

To provide further clarification of the connections for a Mark III cable and plug, the following points should be noted:-

    • The screen around the brown and green cables are joined together at the plug either end and these joined screens are connected to pin 2, it should be noted that the screens are NOT connected to the din plug metal shield as is often the case. This is only done when the whole cable is screened.
    • The blue wire is connected to pin 6
    • All other wires are as per the Mark II connections, but for the avoidance of doubt they are:-
    • Pin 3 is brown, Pin 4 is yellow and pin 5 is green
    • Looking from the solding side of the din plug and going clockwise from gap (dent) the pin numbers are 6, 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 7 and 8 in the middle
    • Pins not mentioned are not wired meaning pins 1, 7 & 8

    Regards Keith....

    Re: The powerlink cables

    We write it down instead:

1.Beolab A/B powered speakers= Powerlink MK I, MK II, MKIII  will work fine then?

2.And Beolab Ice-powered speakers= just thin Powerlink MK III nothing else!

3.Powerlink MK II= Is the same as "Fully loaded" powerlink?

4.But the MKIII for BL A/B powered speaker would sound greater because the extra blue grondwire? Less distortion and pink nois?

    Regards
