    In need of a project

    Hi all:

Now that my media server project i finished(ish) I am in need of another project. I would like to develop my skills in electroincs yet think that the kits available in Maplin and on eBay are a bit too basic.

I would like to build a beach buggy but my mechanical knowledgw is not that great yet and I would need to go on a welding course first.

Can anyone think of a gainful project I could do in a garage?

    Thanks

    Graham

I could do that if I lived in Clitheroe, I used to have an interest in a Jaguar scrap yard.

    Bit too far away though.

Visit www.retrorides.proboards86.com - There is loads of project cars for sale on there and they are always really cheap.

The site is great too with really friendly people and good resources if you are into the classic/retro car scene.

    Hope this helps,

    Llewelyn

Whittle a violin from a solid hardwood plank using only nail clippers.

The sense of achievement when finished will be immeasurable!

Following a conversation I had with a friend about my obsession woodglue as a do-it-all adhesive, he suggested I tried making a violin out of it.  I'm thinking that if the wood does dry 'more solid than the wood' then maybe I will.  All I need to do is buy a cheap cruddy sweatshp-made violin on eBay for £20, then cut it up and make a cast for the bits out of plaster/wax, then pour the glue in.  Rest assured, if I get round to it, I'll post the pictures here.

Thanks Craig, I will consider that but I can't promise anything.
I would like to restore every set I come across but time won't allow it, I'm afraid.

    I have a fine idea:

What about small LCDs like on the PENTA speakers or the BL3500 that you can attach via Powerlink cables, showing the actual source, time etc.?
You could attach those small displays near your couch etc. for a small and decent info. I like that stuff :-)

I know that Ulf from the german forum managed to do that ...

Great idea! A nice illuminated display, mounted in an aluminium frame perhaps?

Re: In need of a project

My project... well, when I find time!

I have a dead BeoTalk 1200. My intent is to incorporate it into a link setup.

    1.) BeoTalk 1200

    2.) RIDAX display

    3.) MCL Transceiver

4.) MCL2AV (use the tape source)

5.) iPod Touch /or/ Airport Expess

    6.) Pair of BeoLabs

Gut the 1200 and MCLT. Replace the BT's display w/ the RIDAX. Incorporate the IR and button functionality from the MCLT in the BT. If I used the Touch -modify the BT's flip panel to fit it (with some effort - I think the iPod could be concealed behind the flip panel), otherwise, use the AE and the Touch to control it.

The idea is that I would end up w/ a good looking "intelligent" local source control in my link room, offering the full RIDAX display!

    Am I crazy? Erm Laughing

If the Touch is placed under the flap, the middle button on the panel: "STORE" ends up directly on top of the Touch button! Yes - thumbs up
