    BEO4 stuck on V.TAPE

I have a strange problem with a Beo4.  It only responds to V.TAPE commands. I have changed the batteries but the remote only displays V.TAPE . No other commands work. I can't even turn off a TV, select CD, RADIO or anything else.

Any idea's other than the remote is fried?

probably as easy as a really stuck "V-TAPE"-key?

Take a digital camera and aim at the IR-LED of the BEO4

If there's a periodic blueish blinking light it continuously sends a command; this would look like a stuck key.

Then a little dismantling & cleaning of the keyboard might help.

EDIT: Just found out that V-TAPE doesn't repeatedly send. Press "5" and release: if it blinks on releasing the "5" the V-TAPE key hangs.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is a common symptom of the PCB failing :(

    It's a common symptom indeed - on the DVD (Mk2) Beo4's..

If i get a failed one, i just order the later VMEM/AMEM PCB and button pad - it costs the same as the older one!

I tried to swap the screen out on one and it's done the same thing - can I just get a board then? or will a dealer swap it for a reconditioned Beo4?

I'll see what the price is, looks like the board has failed.
