Actually there are firmware imbedded in BS5 and BM5 as there are in a normal PC (BIOS), graphic cards and all other items with a CPU.  Software update are updates to the programs stored on harddrive in BM5

I don't know if the upcoming update is only software, firmware or both

    Re: New firmware

In the context of this update, a proposal to our friends from Struer.

Register your BS5 customers with an email address (mostly happening through Beoplayer registration) and inform us as your "dear customers"
    - when an update is happening (can be a few days or a day before or when it happens),
    - what is being changed and
    - what we can expect as functionality gain. Such an approach would certainly show care and proactive customer handling.

Who votes for it as well ?

    Re: New firmware

Sounds like an exelent plan, but Struer is very conservative..

... but they should be less conservative with customers who actually buy their products...

    seethroughyou:

what's a firmware update - is it the same thing as software update?

Computers (PCs, Macs) and other devices have software built in to the hardware (ie. BIOS) so that the computer can understant what it should do when you turn it on. When you get your BV7 'software upgraded', effectively it's updating the firmware.

Basically 'firmware' is used to describe the updating of a device, normally a flashable ROM. You can update the 'software' on your remote control in the same way.

    Re: New firmware

the interesting point on a firmware update compared to a software update:

If the firmware update (e.g. on your mobile phone) goes wrong you normaly have a nice paperweight Big Smile
