Dolby Digital surround 5.1 is it "old"

    Hi.

I am looking at a BV3 with 5.1 channel Dolby Digital surround. I think it is called 7.1 now. Is it still Ok with 5.1 or is too old.

    Regards

    nrhalne.

    5.1 is absolutely ok.

5.1 means that the TV is able to controll the following speakers:

    • center
    • front (2)
    • rear (2)
    • subwoofer

In 7.1, in addition to the above channels, the TV controlls a "left side" and a "right side" channel.

To start off, 5.1 will be enough

Was just wondering when it comes to surround sound. When watching t.v. and dvds surround sound is great but are you supposed to use it when listening to cd's? Are not two speakers better for cd's?

I listen music with 4 speakers, although I fade the rears to a low level. I like it better than 2.

    old discussion, same opinion:

If you want to do some "active listening", stereo is all there is. For background music double stereo is very good. But as Craig said: it might just be a personal preference.
