Sorry if this is an obvious one, but how do I check the belt tension on a Beogram 1800 (type 58xx), and if it's too loose or tight, adjust it?

If the belt is the correct one, I can't see it going too tight. If it is too slack, your Beogram will either run slow, or take ages to gather speed.
I wouldn't fix it if it's not broke. I have a feeling that there is not an adjustable belt tensioner.
I'm sure that Martin or some other WOS will correct me if I'm wrong.

Okay. One reason I ask about belt tension is because I had had to loosen the screw holding down the pulley in the corner to move it slightly back. Before I did that, the pulley itself was rubbing against some adjacent plastic. I'm guessing that when the belt needs to be replaced, this screw is loosened and the pulley is moved forward toward the platter so that the belt can be slipped on, after which it's moved back into position and the screw retightened. But again, this is just a guess--I have no experience with turntables and am learning as I go. Perhaps there's just one tension, and that's it, but I wanted to make sure. Please correct/educate me if I'm mistaken.

There is no provision for adjusting belt tension in any Beogram.
A too loose belt will have to be replaced and a too tight belt will put a too high
pull on the motor holding bracket and it's rubber grommets, sometimes
even destroying the grommets.
A new (correct) belt will easily stretch the small amount needed to just slip on without
losening the motor bracket etc.

I can supply correct belts for Beogram 4000, 4002, 4004 and 6000 and
hopefully soon also for the Beogram 1800 in that I am currently testing
a new prototype. Actually, I could use a second opinion or two on these - PM me !

My Beogram 4002 turntable is AC motor version; its platter is single piece type i.e. I cannot take off the platter without removing the belt.
My current belt is too loose right now.
