    Beolab 3500

    Noddy is back I'm afraid...

    1. Am I right in thinking that I can connect a Bl3500 to a music system with just the powerlink cable (rather than using Masterlink)? I know that I will not then have independent control of the unit but that is not needed in my case.

    2. I have my Ouverture connected to my Beovision 32 and I have a spare speaker/powerlink socket at the rear of the TV (on the Dolby Board). Can the BL3500 connect to that? Does it have to be in the rear or front speaker socket, or does it not matter?

Thanks for any info - much appreciated.

    Re: Beolab 3500

It would have to be connected to one of  the "front" powerlink sockets on the TV.

This is not going to be fun to use. You'll have to make sure your TV is in speaker2 mode, but that cuts the sound from the BV3's speakers. Speaker 3 activates stereo sound for the Beolab connected to the TV, but makes the sound from the TV's speakers mono... so if you wanted to enjoy good stereo sound from both, then each time you switch between them, you'll have to go to the TV and change it's speaker mode. Why can't you masterlink? It's not THAT much thicker than a powerlink cable.

It's very much advisable that you do use masterlink in this setup - you will have complete independent control of both the BV3+Ouverture and the BL3500.

Hi, as far as I know, the BeoLab 3500's powerlink input only works with BeoLink Wireless, not any audio/video master's Powerlink output.

Besides, if you have a BV3-32, the sound from the TV will be far superior to the Lab3500's..

    Thanks for this folks.

I am going to be buying a used 3500 anyway and I do not think it will have a powerlink output on it - I think I read somewhere that they only recently had the powerlink connection. So this leaves me with Materlink anyway, and from what you are saying, this will be a whole lot better. Cheers for putting me on track!

Just one point. My ouverture is connected to the sole masterlink socket on the TV. How would I connect the 3500 in this case...? I have heard about junction boxes but am not sure how tshi would work. 3500 masterlink and ouverture masterlink into the box and then the 'other side' into the TV or how?! Would the 3500 turn on when the TV/Ouverture is truned on?

    Many thanks

    Re: Beolab 3500

    hi,

masterlink is a network, so it doesn't really have a sense of in and out. if all your devices are connected, they recognize each other.

a junction box will allow you to 'split' a cable in two. you can then connect your devices in the most convenient manner.

    have fun !

    Re: Beolab 3500

Thanks for this. Would I need to do anything to the Beo 4 remote or would it automatically operate the 3500?

Noddyish I know, but just wondering how the remote distinguishes between the TV (and the BLs attached to it) and the 3500 (which would possibly be within range of the TV)

    Thank you.

You'd have to set the BL3500 to Option 4.

To control it you have to press LINK and then call a source.

Is setting option 4 as easy as it sounds...?

    Thanks.

Yes. (on the Beo4) while in the room with the BL3500 (ensure that the Ouverture does not recieve any of the signals!)

    1. Press list while holding power-off

    2. scroll down until Beo4 displays  OPTION?

    3. press go

    4. scroll down to A.OPT

    5. press 4!

Presto. To acsess link (which you will need to press, via the LIST button, to access a source from the other B&O items) all you need to do is repeat step 1

    select ADD?

scroll until you find LINK and press go.
