    XML generator program too complicated

    Hello Keith,

I am puzzled why you did not contact me during the development of this program.

The idea is excellent, but the convertion can be made a lot easier for the individual user and we could share a lot more.

You are handling one command at a time. Why not convert all commands at the same time and let the user make full use of the existing structure/handling in the Configurator ?

Why not share the thousands of codes we already have ?

Why the closed group here and not let the thousands of existing LinTronic owners benefit and provide you with their existing products ?

Why not include the entire program in the Configurator ?

That would be true sharing and lift everything at a higher level.

    I am open for it.

    Hello Michael,

that is a great idea! A database with XML codes for many units (Bluray, DVD, VCR, Beamer, TVs, Amplifiers etc. ...) would be great for the Beo 5 owners.

Search the units you have at home, download XML files, configure them as you want and ready!

I am not quite sure Beoworld is actually interested in a free version of the XML generator.

Although it does look like a non-profit gift to beoworld users it is still only available for silver/goldmembers ... and members are encouraged to use our Configurator as a Pronto converter.

Like Beoworld we cannot make business for free. LinTronic may choose to include an XML generator in our Configurator for all of our customers.

To learn more you will have to sign up for our next NewsLetter.
I cannot announce that in here.

As I understand it, the lintronic box is but one way to access the codes. I believe that there are others which are cheaper. Once the codes are in the system, doesn't the Beo5 rather render the lintronic box superfluous? If the remote is able to produce third party codes, the purpose of a code converting box seems obsolete. There seem to be a number of codes for a lot of the common devices on site now and the continual problem is new devices rather than the old devices which are no longer used.

I think it fair that the work that Keith has done benefits the site - silver membership at £15 is not a huge amount - and of course he will even do the work for you should programming be beyond you. This is not a Beoworld service but rather something Keith has set up but which Beoworld completely endorse.

Only to be clear: I didn't meant it to be free, it's still a good thing that the generator etc. is availbe to silver and gold members only. It is quite fair as Keith etc. have invested time and work to get these things done. I still think that the Lintronic Box is a good opportunity as it offers the possibility (as far as I understand the documentations) to learn ALL of your remote control codes and create a database of your own. I'm planning to buy a Lintronic box plus install the XML Code Generator to get access even to rarely devices that have an infrared remote control. This way I have some kind of back up if the original gets damaged or lost!

Re: XML generator program too complicated

    Hello Peter,

I am sure you understand that I was quite puzzled to learn that Keith refers directly to the Configurator, and explains how to use the Pronto to LinTronic format - and not even once contacting me for either information or simply letting me know.

I suggested to Keith that we work together on this, as the way he does the convertion is very time consuming for the user. The Configurator has already been prepared for this convertion for some time so why not make the best of it ?

And why not allow all of my existing 7.000 users to contribute ? By sharing a common database, documentation, etc. we could bring this even further.

As it is now, we are working on exactly the same thing in two directions.

As I see it, I have now invited ... and we can keep the XML converter for your members. I do not have a problem with that,as the TT455-RT-238 offers much more than IR control.

I have explained this very openly in my email directly to Keith.

However, I understand that you guys are not interested in such a cooperation, so I will proceed on my own and include the XML converter in the Configurator.

    All the best,
    Michael Lindgaard

I must confess to being slightly baffled by this. It would seem to me that Lintronic are complaining that Keith is telling their customers how to work the Lintronic equipment - I would have thought that was a service.

In return, Lintronic are now saying that they will take the software that Keith has compiled and use it for their own purpose. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

    I'm a bit baffled too..

Hasn't Keith actually helped Lintronic's sales ?  You seem to be affronted that your name/products have been mentioned, and now want 'in on the action' on a product Keith has spent literally hundreds of hours on.  If you have something clear to offer him, please can you give it to us all in layman's terms (ie very plain English for us non-technical types) and also highlight how much it would benefit everyone.

From my very limited understanding, you want to use this for your own customers benefit with no benefits to Keith - am i correct?
