    SP10 cartridge misfunction

    Hello

    First contact help demand

Backed to good taste. I looked my Beogram 1000, type 55203 turntable after many years stored I want enjoy it again; it's first time I opened it but steps are good

1-I bought by downloading the only service manual I find (for Beogram 1000 type 5229); thereis any concerning type 5203? if so how to get it?

2- I got: Belt cuted shorter and fitted again. Arm balancing slider pos.2 line.Arm height adjustment. Motor shaft oiled(quite silence running).selector and fine speed control oiled. strboscopic 33 rpm ok with fine control

3- Device is fitted with SP10 cartridge (no SP7 or 14)I remember working nice, but now no more

When I was setting all this the arm came out rest and stylus touched any point, resulting support diamond bent down and I checked also twisted, I tried to correct, even rotating socket in arm but not enough.

Magnifier glass shows diamond support turned to left and no way correcting with pincers wich marks and risk damage

I tested with a LP but sound is bad, rumble noise and stylus keeps on same tracking no feeding to centre

    Solution?

    New stylus? where?

I tried to pull shell cartridge off (loosen screw) but no succeed afraid to damage. maybe I have to do it if buying a new stylus!!!

    welcome your support and advice

    thanks a lot

    Fernando

We have the 5203 service manual on site. I think your cartridge is at fault - Axel repairs these and sounds as if he could be a good solution. Look here for his site. The shell will come off - where are you based?

    Re: SP10 cartridge misfunction

Really by what I learned from forum you are a dedicated man to help B&O owners, thanks God having people like you, my sincerely thanks

I leave small town VN Famalicao between 2 main others Braga and Oporto North Portugal, having B&O shop dealers on both, but I felt some knowledge lack on classics.

    Axel in Germany right?

Also curious pls let me know if I can pull shell off cartridge how? I tried to do it pulling through screw hole, one can pull out through DIN pins? gently of course

As I told before type 5229 manual helped me for setting up, anyway I would like to keep the one for 5203, how to do?

Talking about Axel usually we post cartridge or we demand stylus ref.?

    cordially yours

    Fernando

    Hey Fernando! Welcome to BeoworldSmile

I agree, thanks God having people like Peter!

Peter has spent hours and hours scanning and putting most of the manuals on site.
To access them, you need to be a gold or silver member. This helps to finance the site.

PS driven past Braga many times, on the way up to Vigo or Cangas.

    Poor me, never win owt!

I would post the whole thing - if the stylus was very tricky to remove I wonder if it is damaged. The only problem I see is that you are using the wrong cartridge - for the Beogram 1000, you should really have an SP6/7 or 14 as these have a different compliance than the SP10 and SP12 which were really designed for the later decks. The SP10 and 12 were designed to track at a lower weight - 1.2g. I am not sure how the arm on the 1000 will react to this. If you tell Axel you have a Beogram 1000, he will sort the suspension out on your stylus to be the correct sort I am sure.

    Re: SP10 cartridge misfunction

Not sure if I can post pictures, but I bought an SP6 and an SP12 with non-working styli and the cartridge bodies are different. I don't know whether this prevents an SP14/10 or 12 working with the earlier body. There's a small lip running round the back of the SP6-7 body which may prevent an SP10 stylus properly locating with the magnets.

Below are the ebay pics of the cartridges I bought. Hope I can use these as these items are now mine.

Good luck, I think they're worth the effort, despite their vintage.
