I need something dummed down for me....... Apple TV and Beo4 (new user)

    Hi..

I just had our new BV8-32 installed today, finally. I was hoping to use the Beo4 to control the Apple TV. I know this is possible.... but I just cannot get it to work.... arghhhhhh. I did read some thing elsewhere on the site... but the Apple TV doesn't respond when I try to get it to 'learn' the Beo4

Could someone break it down into an "Connecting Beo4 with Apple TV for idiots" guide ???

Otherwise I really have to say. Loving this TV... and for the bedroom I'm very satisfied with the speaker. It will be our new morning music station with Apple TV. Some people need a bit to get going in the morning... and this is going to really help.

    Thanks a lot

    Luke

    Allo  Luke,

If it was me i would get the SW updated in the tv so that the BV8  controlled the Apple TV via an IR eye. Easy fix..

Contact your dealer who delivered the BV8.

It should be.  I've got my Avant and BS3 controlling an ATV with fast scrolling and everything.  There were issues with some older software but I believe this has all been resolved.

From the factory BV8 doesn't come with Apple on the STB list. Software needs to be updated.

In Software Tool Kit MKII there is a few Apple: remote, tv, etc, but you have to go to Expert Mode and choose Apple Australia. If you get only Apple remote, won't work easly.

BeoSystem 3, BV7-32 are ok, cause they got different chassis.

How do I get the software updated and how do I get into expert mode??

A bit annoying because I did tell them that I had an Apple TV and I wanted to control it with the remote.

Other than that it really is a great TV. The speaker really blows the other thing we had in the bedroom away.

I just got told that B&O told us that you need some cable in order for this to work ??

I missed most of what the guy was saying. I don't speak his dialect.

You'll need an IR-blaster cable (often called PUC controller cables). Minijack plug on one end, and a tiny little dark maroon IR-blaster on the other end with an adhesive face to stick to the front of the Apple TV.

The TV will probably need a PUC table to be created too (done with the service tool mkII). To see if it does, tell the TV the aTV is a STB box, and the TV should bring up a list of controllable devices when you press GO. If Apple TV is anywhere on the list, then you're fine, you just need the cable...

I was able to use the learning function Apple to TV to get our BV7 to control Apple TV without having the software update. I had to try  a couple different different listed products. The first one I tried would not work at all. The second one I tried worked.

    Beovision 7-55 with Beolab 7-4, 9s and 4000s

    Beovision 10-40 with Beolab 1s and 6000s

    Beosound 1, 5, 2000, and 3000

Here is a link to a thread that explains a little more about how I got the Apple TV to learn the Beo 4 commands.

The Beo 4 itself uses a IR frequency that the ATV doe snot support.

    2 options should:

    - There is a STB controller available that simulates the Apple Remote. You would need to connect an IR Blaster cable from the TV to the ATV. This is how that is running with my BV832 US version that I have for a year or so.

    - The other option that I suspect works as was stated above should work too as the IR Blaster supports a frequency that the ATV supports. Again you need to connect an IR Blaster Cable from the TV to the ATV.

The TV should have had one included.

Personally even though I have option 1 running I will try the 2nd at some point as some things will not work with the B&O ATV implementation. I.e. holding the "Go" key down.

I guess I will buy one of those cables and get the software updated since the cable did not come with the TV.

Also.. was one of those cable socks supposed to come with the TV or is that also an optional purchase ??

    Hi Luke,

The ir cable should come with the TV, the dealer should throw in a piece of cable sock for you.

It will take the dealer very little effort to put in the puc code for the Bvis 8 to operate the apple please get them to do it as it works brilliantly!!

    Good luck

Hey thank you for all of this. I will email them and ask them if it is possible... because we intend to use Apple TV more than the DVD player and this seems like a really good feature. I'll also ask for some cable sock.
