40" LCD, looks like BV5 but only 6cm deep and should be around £5500-£6000.

That is quite thick actually for a thin TV!

I am feverishly awaiting the arrival of the BV 10. From what I hear, the quality of the loudspeakers should fall between the BV 8 and BV 7, so the slight thickness would make sense from an engineering standpoint to accomodate the loudspeaker enclosures.

Alternatively, they could license technology from Quad and incorporate electrostatics. No limit to thinness then! BeoVision 11 perhaps...

They wouldn't even need to license it from Quad - anybody can make an electromagnetic inducer.

The problem is the area of the driver would need to be so large - you would need a frankly massive TV...

I think they were interested in the early days but gave it up (I could be wrong). NXT speakers suffer from lack of any really bass (or so I believe)!

They did flat speakers before so I don't see a reason why they would have to go after a third party.  6cm is not super thin

    Confused

I regard B&O as one of the best loudspeaker manufactuers in the world. Certainly with respect to compact loudspeakers. I don't think they need to get ideas from Quad, NXT, Mission or even B&W. They probably have more technical resources than all these companies combined.

Why do people regard regard Beolabs as second rate or inferior to everything else?

    Re: BeoVision 10 any news?

They weren't truly 'flat' speakers in the sense of the Quad ESLs. The B&O flat speakers were just very, very well designed conventional loudspeakers which were a different shape.

That is why it's probably 6 cm and not 3 as the Samsung. I dont think they will give us crappy sound to achieve thinness.

I don't think anyone implied that Beolabs were second-rate. The references to the other companies were for unconventional sound-producing technologies that might help B&O achieve a thinner profile in their TV's without resorting to tiny, shallow woofers.

No doubt B&O could design and manufacture an electrostatic loudspeaker, or even a horn for that matter. But how much resources would they need to expend, given their lack of experience in electrostatics, to achieve the same quality as Quad's ESL's? Especially in today's economic climate, licensing is a viable idea. Maserati's MC-12 uses an Enzo Ferrari engine. Some of the Beocords were based on Hitachis.

Of course, B&O might want to keep everything in-house. A noble philosophy, since overtly borrowing someone else's technology diminishes a brand's aura and exclusivity. A shame then, that they had to stick their logo onto Samsung's MP3 player without so much as a disguise.

Isn't it due in November? Some time off yet and that's providing B&O get it out on-time!

BV10 does sound interesting though. If the picture is as good as the BV8-40, and it can be flushly wall-mounted, it's going to be an interesting option.

    koning:

All we know is that it's based on the BV8-40 chassis (and one would guess the same LCD panel) with two HDMI inputs, it has a BV5-style aluminium surround (ie not curved) and is quite thin (so should be fairly flush against the wall, unlike a BV4). Someone said it's going to have it's own speakers, but it's unclear of the design of those speakers.

    Q4 release.

I'm sure when someone knows more, they'll post the info. However, I guess you can 'draw' the design in your own head?

If its supposed to be 6cm thick, about 2 inches, then there is hope it might be LED based screen. There is hope since obviously they are in bed with samsung. Just speculating and hoping here .......

    Re: BeoVision 10 any news?

From what I gathered over half-an-hour's research, there are two categories of "LED" screens - 1) a conventional LCD but using LED's as a lighting source rather than fluorescent lamps, and 2) an actual LED screen made up of individually lighted pixels, as in Sony's OLED TV.

The first category can be done in two ways - 1) by placing LED's across the entire back of the display, usually about 1000 of them, or 2) by placing them just on the perimeter, creating what's called an "edge-lit" display. The former is more expensive but is regarded to be better, and Samsung just happens to have both types on the market!

    46" Back-lit

    40" Edge-lit

Either would be a big improvement over our current fluorescent-lamp-based LCD's. OLED as we all know is still several years away, so here's hoping (no, DEMANDING!) that B&O will use one of these for the BV 10. Big Smile

    Re: BeoVision 10 any news?

Yes, there's hope it might be LED backlit. However, as the BV10 is supposed to be based on the existing BV8-40 technology, there's a strong liklihood it won't be LED backlit (in the same way the BV7-40 isn't). I heard the first LED backlit B&O TV will be the BV7-55, which is also out later this year.

I'm not sure if B&O can strategically release a 'better' mid-range 40" TV over and above their BV7-40 MKIV, either.

    I think that's ridiculous.

I tought they would react faster on new technology.

Why didn't they use the new led panels of Samsung in the new BV7-40 MKIV???????
