    Dont Laugh....but...

...I love my Beovision 3 and in August I move to the USA and don't want to leave it behind!!  After doing some research I think it will work OK as long as I get a step up transformer - is that correct? Anybody done this before?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

No laughter -we all love our B&O.

Which voltage supply & location are you moving from?

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Don't forget that besides the voltage, the frequency of the AC voltage is different between Europe (50Hz) and US (60Hz).  A step down transformer would not take care of this.

    Hi firqinusa,

firstly I want to wish you all the best in the USA. I can only advise u to sell the BeoVision 3 and get an USA Avant. Or changing the complete BeoVision 3 inside chassis (which is based on the Avant) for an USA Avant chassis (and tube?).

Try the North America forum also for advise. (USA uses set top boxes and mostly digital TV)

What other options do you have? (USA Beosystem 3 and a flat panel)

Regards, Robert (not wanting to sell my BeoVision3 now)

Ha!  Paid £23 for this album over 30 years ago, and still play it regularly!

You'll be fine. The transformer and perhaps some scart > RCA adaptors. As long as you don't plan on using the internal tuner.

Hi Guys...thanks for the feedback but there seems to be a few conflicting answers. Anyone got a more definitive reply or additional info that I could research further myself? Spoke to my local dealer and got a "we don't think it will work" type answer but didn't get the impression it was fully investigated if you know what I mean...

    Re: Dont Laugh....but...

I moved 10 years back from Germany. I took a BS2300/BL2500 which is since then running on tranformers.

I would not do that with a TV though. Yes you probably can make it work somehow, as Trip indicates.

Is it a good idea? For starters, B&O US will not be able to service your TV. I learned this the hard way with a phone I bough in Germany few years later.

Also, everything here happens through external cable boxes. The brands a different then what you are used to from the UK so most likely your STB will not support these. I doubt it can be upgraded since the US never has seen that model. So say hello to 2 remotes.

Personally I would say good bye for it, find a loving soul who will cherish it and say hello to a BV 7 MK3 sans DVD if you still can scoop up a deal at your new local dealer .....

How long will you be staying?

One more thing, the transformers might probably cost you more then a cheap TV. I bough a 3 low powered for the BS2300/BL2500. These were like 30 bucks a pop. For a TV you need a much higher rated supply, these are expensive ..... And yes, the frequency might be an issue ..... mine somehow work without it - I had problems with timers and alarm clocks though, i.e. in my VCR.

    Re: Dont Laugh....but...

I can confirm Trips advice that the Beovision 3 will work in the US provided you use a STB and do not try and use the analogue tuner.

Certainly you will need to use a step down mains transformer and the different mains frequency will not be an issue.

The biggest issues you are likely to have are:-

    1. Getting the Beovision 3 repaired if it goes wrong may be an issue.
    2. The STB-C depending on the table version are going to be for European STB's and in the US they use a lot of cable STB's which you are unlikely to find in the STB-C of any version. Clearly you can still use the STB's own remote.

    Regards Keith....
