    MMC4 Cartridge and Beogram 8002...

Greetings to all:  I have a Beomaster 8000 and a Beogram 8002.  I have been using an MMC-4 cartridge.  I have tried  to upgrade with an MMC-2 cartridge.  I have tried two different MMC-2 cartridges at different weight levels.  No luck.  Once, one of them worked, but when I tried to adjust the weight level, I couldn't get the MMC-2 cartridge to work a second time.  I am not sure what the problem is.  Is it possible to use the MMC-2 with the Beogram 8002?  Anyone else have a problem similar to this?  I would be grateful for any information you might have.  Best wishes, Donald

    Hi Donald

Yes it's possible the 8002 was "born" with the mmc2.If those you tried are used they are not ok.

Agree. The MMC2 is the standard fitting. If the MMC4 works, there is no reason the MMC2 should not - the cartridge body is identical = only the cantilever and diamond differ. You can get the MMC2s repaired - I have just had one of mine done which had a snapped cantilever. Have a look at http://www.schallplattennadeln.de/ - Axel is very friendly and immensely quick.

Thank you for gettng back to me.  The MMC 2's were purchased from another B&O owner.  The packages were sealed and sold as new.  I am quite discouraged about this and not sure what to do about it.  Donald

    Hi Donald.

It sounds as though the suspension has hardened over time which is quite common even in so called "new old stock" ones. I would send them to Axel and have the suspension renewed (I assume he can do this?) - the cantilever & stylus should be fine if they were sealed items.

Or you could ask the seller to refund you.

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

I agree with Chris in sending them in for repairs. Unless you paid a huge amount for them in the first place, in which case I would consider going for a refund.

I would get a refund - not suitable for use. It is all very well but you probably paid quite a bit and Axel will charge a fair bit to fix them - he has to take them apart.
