New 40" BeoVision 7 Blu-ray
Hi,
Has anyone seen the new 100hz BV7-40? Is it close to an Avant with an SD signal? Prices go up by 10% on 8th May so I am wondering whether to get in quick and upgrade my 4 year old BV7-32. What do you experts advise?

As far as I know there aren't any available to be seen; you're going in blind on this one.

Re: New 40" BeoVision 7 Blu-ray
It's not shipping yet, sadly. 'May' was the last info I received from my dealer and that was a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps later this month?
I don't expect a significant upgrade beyond the current BV7-40 MKIII.
BTW no LCD screen is going to be as good as an Avant with strong SD signal. CRT TVs smooth the image somewhat, whereas LCDs show every flaw 'as is'. With SD on your LCD screen, you'd be disappointed compared to an Avant.
A BV7-40 will excel with a HD source (ie. Blu-ray). The big advantage of a flat-panel over CRT is the size of the screen. ie. CRT can't do 40", 50", 65" and so on.

FYI, the price rise of 10% is active from June 1st, any dealer telling you otherwise is either hard-pushing to get you to buy now or profiteering!

It improves the camera panning slightly, when watching football - ideal for me. If you only watch news and documentories, probably not a great deal! As I said, I don't expect to buy a MKIV panel and see a big improvement over the MKIII. I am upgrading the panel though.
Koning - you might be right. I heard that B&O have quite a few in-stock MKIIIs to shift before they can allow people to order the MKIV.

Be careful about such a statement, the general price rise is indeed the 1st of June, but BV7 40 will go up on May 8th and not June 1st. If you have an order in place now you will benefit from the current price.

Not true. The price increase for the 7-40 BluRay is from 9th May as stated above. Anybody telling you a dealer who quotes you the increased price from that date is trying it on, is mis informed.

Re: New 40" BeoVision 7 Blu-ray
then again since it's all in one , it's not bad vfm at all really
bd player , dvd upscaler , 4 hdmis , 3 rgb scarts, 100hz - not a bad spec at all !
i just looked up the bravia site ( couldn't make head nor tail of the thing - so badly designed ) their stuff isn't so cheap plus you'll have loads of lovely boring boxes wired up all over your house ! eeeurgh..
they couldn't explain to me which was the better model , the z , the x , the ex , the zx or the xyz with added exz-zness

Re: New 40" BeoVision 7 Blu-ray
i have a bv 7 40 mk 4. the tv has only two useable hdmi sockets. the other two are used by the tv, for the blu ray and freeview box i expect. imo, this spec is not good vfm, since you can get a better spec at roughly 6 and and a half times cheaper! even if it means you've got loads of boxes and wires all over the place...but if you can afford it...

I have a MK IV as well, and to be fair, yes the Tv only has 2 available HDMI sockets, however there are 4. To compare with other brands you have to deduct 2 HDMI inputs for BD and DVD-HD (if one is not inbuildt) to get the same features. I know this is individual, but i will not need more than 2 extra inputs. I would instead like there to be a digital output for my Bl5´s for sound hooked up with HDMI... I dont get why this is not present?? What if you played your Cd´s on the tv, you are not able to fully use your lab 5´s possibilities. I mean, how hard could it be to have ONE digital output..???
BV7-40 MK IV, BL5´s, BL3´s, BL 3500, BL7-4, BS3000, BC 6-23, BV 1, BS3.

Re: New 40" BeoVision 7 Blu-ray
Ehlerz,
If the BV-7 had this, Apple aficianados like me would completely bypass a B&O audio system by using the BV-7 as an audio master (to which we'd connect things like an Apple TV).
B&O's seemingly purposeful omission of this ability on their high-end TVs (which could be incorporated via the simple and logical addition of a digital co-axial output to the BS3), is IMHO a bad decision on their part. I understand their apparent reasoning (i.e. protecting sales of audio master units like the BS5), but I think it a short-sighted decision that will ultimately cost them sales.

Re: New 40" BeoVision 7 Blu-ray
My dealer just confirmed a DVB-HD update in about 2 weeks. Hopefully this fixes trouble with slow switching, restarts, showing the right programs on the right time, and occasionally displaying a big grey "cant dekode" box even if the program is present.
Lets cross our fingers

Re: New 40" BeoVision 7 Blu-ray
I presently have the sd freeview built into my BV 7 Mk III. The interface is slow and sometimes take an age to populate with the programs. Will this upgrade enable me to receive freesat or indeed freeview hd when it is broadcasted in the future?
