    BV7 Sub settings

We just had the software updated on our BV7. I noticed that in the speaker menu in addition to being able to choose "subwoofer" there are now options for left subwoofer, right subwoofer, front subwoofer and rear subwoofer. I do not recall seeing these options in the old software. Are they new?  Do they have any affect on the performance of the sub? I did not think there was any sort of directional difference in the sub track although physical location of the sub does affect the sound.

    Thanks!

    Re: BV7 Sub settings

Aren't these settings for connecting two BL2s to a BV7-40 MKIII? ie. a BL2 left and BL2 right?

    Re: BV7 Sub settings

Anybody have any experience using two subs?  Does setting the BV7 to left right front or rear change the sound that goes to the sub in any manner? I have also noticed that it does allow two different distances to be set for the two subs.

    Thanks!

    Re: BV7 Sub settings

My question is do the settings in the BV7 menu that allow a sub to be specifically assigned a position such as LEFT RIGHT FRONT REAR have any effect on tge sound from the sub? If not, why does the BV7 allow the sub to be assigned a position?

    Thanks!

    Re: BV7 Sub settings

Maybe this is related to the speaker distance for each sub. The signal for all the subs is the same, but the time delay is not the same if say for example your Lab 2 #1 is 3m away from the listening position, and your Lab 2 #2 is 4m away.

What are the menu settings for each sub ?

I tried two subs on my BS3. But because of the dimensions of the room it didn't impress me. It was over the top!

If one has a really large room I can imagining one wants a additional sub.

When you tried the two subs did you have them assigned as to their location, i.e. front or rear, left or right or just as two subs with no identification of the position.

OK. Curious... There is always only 2 PowerLinks outputs for subwoofers, but the software asks for the position of 4 subs ?

Could you precise how is the menu ? (or have you a picture ?)

    SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    RIGHT SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    LEFT SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    FRONT SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    REAR SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    ....... ?

Two or more subs do not only give more power (not needed !): sound distribution is more even/coherent. I tested it intensively at my home. The result is definitely much better than only one sub. However my room has modest size: 4m large * 5.5m long.

I tested with 3 Lab 2 too, but the benefit is not really worth the prize. Since the BS3 there is two subs outputs. Full-range speakers (i.e. Lab 5s) are two bass units. I do not think this is only for large rooms, but because the listening position is more flexible with 2 subs than with only one.

    SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    RIGHT SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    LEFT SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    FRONT SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    REAR SUBWOOFER ON/OFF

    ....... ?

The available settings are as follows under SPEAKER ROLES, one will be listed under the other,  and they both change together when pressing the left/right on the Beo 4. It is not possible for instance to set both to the same position, other than the first option which is SUBWOOFER                                                                                                                                                                                               SUBWOOFER

    The next option is

LEFT SUBWOOFER RIGHT SUBWOOFER ,  the next is  RIGHT SUBWOOFER/LEFT SUBWOOFER followed by FRONT SUBWOOFER/REARSUBWOOFER and then FRONT SUBWOOFER/REAR SUBWOOFER and finally REAR SUBWOOFER/FRONT SUBWOOFER.

Also, when it is set to SUBWOOFER/SUBWOOFER there is only one setting for distance available in the distance menu. If the other options are chosen the distance menu will allow two different distances to be input for each sub.

Thanks Razlaw for explanation and picture !

OK, I think I understand how this works. My first supposition seems good: this is related to speaker distances for several subwoofers. SUBWOOFER/SUBWOOFER option is perhaps if you have 2 Lab 2 at equal distance from your listening position (default setup).

Curious thing is placing a subwoofer at the rear position is not recommended.

PS: The owner guide has not been upgraded at this time for show these new options.

There is also one more setting that will display   SUBWOOFER SUBWOOFER. When that option is chosen it is possible to set only one distance whereas with the other settings two different distances can be set. That setting seems to be the normal one subwoofer setting.
