    Official File support of BM5/BS5?

    Hi,

my dealer told me today that the BS5 ONLY supports WMA losless, is this correct? I want to stay flexible so my music collection is based on MP3.

Can I copy native MP3 files to the BS5 or do I have to re-rip my entire CD collection?

I'm planning to re-rip my CDs in the future ... but in WAV-format.

    Thanks for your help.

Is there a list of file types that the BM5 / BS5 supports native?

Mp3's are OK - see Here, so is aac. WMA is the only lossless compression format supported.

Why WAV-format, surely you are using approximately twice the hard drive space per track/album for absolutely no benefit whatsoever. WMA lossless will give bit perfect playback.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

    Merci :-)

WAV is simply the best, the raw PCM file. WMA losless, Apple losless is all computerized ...

But WAV has a big problem: No ID3 tags :-)

I know you've expressed a preference for WAV format before and so I won't attempt to sway you further but I shall add this link (aothough a little old) for completeness sake, to round off the discussion and for others who may read this at a later date.

    WAV vs Lossless

thank you for this interesting link, puncher.

It realy sounds interesting 'cause it mentioned one thing I completely forgot about:
ID3 tags and WAV does not work together and I don't want 250 CDs named "Track 1 Album X" :-)

But I will test it out with my ears as soon as my BS5 arrives ;-)

At a forum for hifi-nuts that I frequent, one user recently lamented having ripped nearly 1500 CDs to WAV, before finding out about the limitations as far as TAGs was concerned. A big AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! post resulted.

I can imagine that this was a realy big "AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!" Big Smile

I think I will try out the tools mentioned in the above link to the sonos forum. If I can live with those limitations I will only rip selected CDs to WAV  format with minimal tagging.

I can't wait to get my Beosound 5!!!!!
