    Hard Drive Advice

    Hi,

I'm wanting to store all my music and DVD's on an external hard drive and play them back on a BV8 using Beo 4. Is this possible? I'd also like the hard drive hidden away in a cupboard out of sight.

    Any suggestions?

    Well,

BeoMaster 5 leaps readily to mind, naturally.  But I might also mention AppleTV.  Both will work as described.

The BeoMaster 5 isn't a media centre so won't do DVDs/video playback (it supports video playback, but it's more for short family snaps etc...

You may want to have a look at the TViX system, or on more of a budget, something like the Apple TV.

I bought a "Ready NAS" Duo from netgear. I have an Apple TV running Boxee accessing that through my wireless network. My BV8 with BV4 controls that. The Readynas is mirrored 1 TB drive so I have a high level of fault protection.

I think you can connect other drives to the ATV as well ....... You could also use a Mac Mini, that should actually work a bit better since the ATV is a bit undersized for some applications, i.e. Netflix or Hulu streaming.

I'm using a mac-mini as my media hub, you'd also need an external hard drive unless you have a small library, works a treat......
