    MX4002 picture quality

Hi, I have bought a second hand MX4002 beo4. The picture is somewhat darker, than I would expect, with settings for brilliance, colour and contrast set to normal (32, 32, 44). What could be wrong? Erik

Clean under the contrast screen Big Smile

If it has been used a lot, the tube may have lost some of its brilliance. Just crank the values a bit higher if you like it better that way, they are just numbers at this point. And if you're comparing to some other TV set, remember that B&O's with a contrast screen usually appear darker - they don't need to be that bright.

But seriously, if the TV came from a smoking household, the inside of the contrast screen and the tube surface underneath can have a horrible brown coating. Cleaning them sometimes makes wonders to both brilliance and sharpness...

For reference, the contrast screen just pops off. Very gently, push a small flat-head screwdriver under the little notch at the bottom of the screen in the centre. You'll be able to lever the screen out a little (being very gentle so you don't scratch it) and then it just pops out at either side.

It's worth giving the CRT tube itself a dust too...

    Thanks a lot!

Could it really be that simple?

I will give it a try.

I have a LX2500 and a LX 6000 and they do both have a much brighter picture with standard settings, but it seems as the contrast screen in itself is darker for the MX4002, which came form a smoke free environment...

    Hi,

If its your first tv with a contrast screen they do at first appear darker.  It took a few weeks to get fully used to mine!

    Cheers Nick
