Got bored so I made this

Having a few rather tatty Beolink 1000 parts sitting around got me thinking about what to do with them so I thought I'd make a bespoke one to match my system 7000. The top plates have been stripped back to bare metal before applying metal etch primer & sprayed with several coats of satin black paint & polished to a piano black finish. The main body was stripped back to bare aluminium and polished via increasing grades of wet & dry paper before polishing with T cut & finally jewellers rouge to give a mirrored finish.

Very nice! That picture may have just cost me a few hours of work, I have a well worn Beo 4 I've wanted to fix and now I may have to borrow your idea. A perfect match for BC9000.

The beauty is that all it took was a couple of hours work and a few quid for the paint. It has definately made good use of otherwise pretty ropey parts which were just laying around waiting for the rag & bone man to take them to the great scrap yard in the sky.

Thanks for the kind comments. More pic's to follow when I've dusted off the dog hairs and got some decent daylight. I have to give a little credit to Craig who's opinion I asked when he called in last week and gave me the thumbs up to follow this through.

Re: Got bored so I made this

It is still a little bit of work in progress as I'm waiting for some specialised paint to arrive to recreate the finger pads on the back plate & some replacement rubber feet.

I'll post more pic's on completion. As for wanting one, I can quite easily refurb some other casings when I've perfected this.

Re: Got bored so I made this

Now finished and I'm quite pleased for a first attempt. The back has been sprayed on the "finger plate" sections with rubberised black paint. On reflection I think I should have gone for a dark grey to match the textured part of the battery cover and got some better quality masking tape for a neater edge, but hey - it's for my own use and can live with thatSmile

The main thing is it has been in use for almost a month now (with visting grandkids who are typically fascinated with remote controls) and I'm very happy with the durability of the finish.

Another. Those aren't chips to the front edge - it's my camera flash.

    How much are they worth?

I have 2 that i dont use, one works and in ok condition the other dosent and has worn buttons.

I also have a 2002 mx8000 that had a new tube courtesy of B&O in 2005 but now has a power supply problem. I feel sorry for the poor thing cos it was rejected by its owner cos he had enough by this point and i gave him £150 for it. He sold the remote on ebay for £75.

My misses said ive got enough but its in white, not a colour id choose myself but i love it so i told her the white ones are a limited edition, only 50 ever made!! Guess wot she said.........

Well you'd better get it then!

Funny you should mention that - my next project (Steve at Soundsheavenly knows what I meanSmile) is going to be a white one.

How much are they worth? - as much as someone is prepared to pay. A bit of a cop-out answer but it's the truth. As with all things B&O related cosmetic condition is 90% of the price as these are often the most expensive things to put right.

Steve - you have a PM.
