    Beomaster 5000 woes...

    Hello there,

I recently bought a BM5000 on ebay; it was listed as spares or repairs, but I thought I would take a punt. After having a breakthrough and clipping back the motorized panel, I realized that the main board has a crack in the top right corner, where the screw goes through. It starts playing the cd or radio perfectly, before making a "ping" noise and entering standby mode.

Any ideas, or suggestions? Or is it a non starter? As it was cheap, I would be happy to spend a couple of hundred quid on repairs to get it back to it's best...

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Hi there = Is it   the 5000 Tuner or the 5000 Tuner/Amp?  It sounds as though u need to repair that crack in the main cct board.  Can u do this sort of thing - its not too difficult?  Has any of the copper track cracked?  Give me some more info. = Brian (Northumberland)

I agree that the broken PCB should be investigated.

The problem sounds like the typical too high idle currents so that would
    be a thing to check.

Hi there, and thanks for the responses!

It's a BM5000 tuner/amp, and it looks like a fairly clean crack, so not sure if that is the problem- the solder lines up, so I'm guessing it can just be glued. Is there anything (simple) I can do about the cutting out, or is it a job for an expert? I also managed to unhook the pulley mechanism yesterday when I was realligning the automated control panel.

Good news is that the CD player works like a dream, and it came with a newish (well has a DVD button) Beo4 remote...

Any comments or ideas happily received- I d/l the service manual, bt it may as well be in greek!

    thanks,,

    Jeff

    The Beo4 won't operate the Beomaster 5000.

Hi Jeff = Conentrating on the crack for the moment - any crack in the copper track, however fine, must be repaired. Its fairly easy - clean the copper and bridge the 'gap' with solder taking care not to short other tracks, but make sure the electrical connection is sound. If u are not experienced at this, practice a bit - u will soon get the idea! Or get someone who can do it.  You can reinforce the break with Araldite or similar.  Do this job first and let us know what happens. I'm sure Martin will be able to help specifically, if necessary - we shall see!  = Brian (Northumberland)

Ah, that's interesting! I bought as a job lot on ebay...

and it didn't even list the remote control... Oh well, straight back on ebay it goes!

    Hey Jeff!
I recommend hanging on to the Beo4.
You will surely acquire more B&O in the future, and ther isn't many items that can't be operated with a Beo4.
Sell it, and a few months down the line you may wish you hadn't!
