    Sky HD in link rooms.

    Hi,

I'm just about to upgrade to Sky HD. The Sky box sits behind my Avant which is the hub of my B&O equipment. If I have a HD TV in a link room would the HD signal get to the TV through the exsisting Masterlink and Coax cable? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

    Quick answer: No

The Sky HD box needs to be connected with both HDMI and scart cables to the Avant (or in my case BS3). When used 'locally' the HDMI connection is used, when watched in a link room, the signal from the scart is used.

its still a better picture (if its from a HD program) than normal sky, since its transmitted with a higher bandwidth to the sky box, but the final picture is SD.

Not a lot of point having HD with an Avant as it won't accept an HD feed. I would stick with Sky+ unless you are getting an HD set. And the others are quite correct - no HD in link rooms either.

I suggest having the sky hd box installed directly in your link room if this tv is hd ready and leave the existing sky box with your avant. Most Sky dish's can support 2 stb's each with sky plus. You my need a multi room subscription to do this though.

    Cheers

Re: Sky HD in link rooms.

    Hello Peter,

The Sky HD upgrade is because I'm purchasing a BV7 for a link room so I thought I could replace the Sky+ box which is on the back of the Avant in the main room and link it to the BV7.

So I need to keep my Sky+ box on the back of the Avant and buy a SKY HD box for the room with the BV7?

Interesting scenario! Pros and cons here! I find it an advantage having the same Sky+ box for the TV in my bedroom as the main room as I can watch programmes I have recorded in either room. The Sky multi-room doesn't allow this. (I have an AV9000 in a second sitting room with a different Sky box). I would be tempted to make the BV7 the video master and have the SkyHD attached to that and then have the ability to control the Sky HD from the Avant by Masterlink. Of course you could use both Sky boxes and control one using the Link command. Gets a bit complicated but probably workable! What did your dealer suggest?

Re: Sky HD in link rooms.

He suggested using link command, Of course if money was no object I would replace the Avant with a BV9 and have HD in both rooms but I like my Avant DVD.

I find that whenever I start swopping rooms around or buying new B&o equipment it always gets very expensive! But we all love our B&O.

So to sum things up I've been persueded to buy the latest 32" BV7 for the kids lounge beacuse the 2005 model is a bit gloomy and dark. The kids lounge will have Sky HD because the Avant isn't HD ready so the Sky+ will have to do for the main room.

Does anybody else use Sky multiroom in there B&O set up? If so any problems or things I need to know?
