    Masterlink to RCA

As a question this may sound weird, but bear with me...

So: is it possible to connect the pins 13/14 and 15/16 from a Masterlink cable to, say, RCA plugs and expect to have a working, (pre-amplified?) line-level output for a power amplifier? Ie. is there something else I need to do in order for the audio device to recognize that Masterlink is connected to something?

Never mind, found the answer. This post/thread can be removed.

The answer is no, pins 13/14 are out of phase with each other as are pins 15/16. You won't get any signal at all, only the interference from the cable.

You can wire pins 14 + 16 alone together with the ground, but I wouldn't want to, you'll get masses of interference over the lengths ML cable is usually run.

    Post the answer!!

Alex beat me to it - I had a strange-ish idea about extracting analog signal from ML for monitoring purposes.

Unfortunately it can't be done this way. Embarrassed

    Re: Masterlink to RCA

If the unit in question got a Powerlink plug, just use that one. Plug in a DIN to RCA converter and the stereosignal will come out of two of the four RCA leads, use balance to identify left from right. Cut of the other two leads if you want...

    Re: Masterlink to RCA

Even if you did extract audio from a single core as opposed to both of them, the signal would be 6dB quieter than it's meant to be...
